Following Najam-Ul-Hasan’s departure, Himanshu Rai turned to his partner Sasadhar Mukherjee’s nephew, Kumudlal Kanjilal Ganguly, who worked as a lab assistant in Bombay Talkies. Much like the character Binod Das in web series Jubilee, Kumudlal Ganguly was not conventionally attractive. However, Himanshu Rai, wary of repeating history, cast him as the replacement and gave him the name by which he would become famous—Ashok Kumar. Since then, he never looked back.
Ashok Kumar’s career spanned several decades, and he was known for his versatility and natural acting skills. He became a trailblazer, experimenting with various roles and genres, and his contributions to Indian cinema are widely celebrated.
