Shabana Azmi and Anurag Kashyap come out in the ‘support’ of “The Kerala Story”

Anurag Kashyap on Kerala Story ban

Anurag Kashyap on Kerala Story ban: After “The Kashmir Files”, now “The Kerala Story” has set the box office on fire. Even after lakhs of protests and unrestrained ranting, this film has taken the next step: Joining the 100-crore club less than 2 weeks! Undoubtedly, this is going to be the first outright blockbuster of Indian cinema this year, especially Bollywood, and now Anurag Kashyap and Shabana Azmi have also come forward to support it.

The criticism none expected

Yes, you heard that right. As Bengal and Tamil Nadu have ban the screening of “The Kerala Story”, and the makers have approached the legal course, they have received support, from all people, by Shabana Azmi and Anurag Kashyap.

Anurag Kashyap and Azmi have criticized The Kerala Story ban imposed on the same. To quote Shabana’s tweet, “Those who are talking about banning Kerala Story are as wrong as those who were talking about banning Aamir Khan’s film Lal Singh Chadha. Once the film is cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification, there is no need for anyone to become an extra constitutional authority”.

Interestingly, even Anurag Kashyap had a unique take of his own. He tweeted, “Whether you agree with the film or not, whether it is propaganda, counter propaganda, objectionable or not, it is wrong to ban it”.

He further wrote, “If you want to fight propaganda, then go in large numbers to watch the film, which speaks against the misuse of social media and shows how implicit bias is weaponized to create hatred and unrest. Is. It is running in theaters and its name is Afwaah. Go make your voice strong, go make an issue, this is the right way to fight.”

This is no coincidence

But this cannot be mere coincidence. Those who are considered to be the poster boys of the leftist faction of the film industry, suddenly start opposing the ban on a film completely opposite to their ideology, is hard to digest for anyone. Is it all to protect their identity, or do they not want the film to get more coverage?

Well, both cases are possible, and there is a solid reason for the same. Ever since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, every film with a closet agenda had to bite the dust at the box office. This year has been nothing less than a disaster for such agenda-oriented filmmakers, and who knows this better than Anurag Kashyap. In such a situation, even if a ‘donkey’ has to be made their father, that too will do, and we’re not kidding.

But there is another reason, behind which the entire episode does not seem to be mere coincidence. The two were at the forefront of protests against “The Kashmir Files” last year, and everyone knows how successful that film was. Apart from this, Shabana Azmi also took the weird example of Lal Singh Chadha while opposing the ban on the film.

On an honest note, Laal Singh Chaddha was just a horrible film, whom none would see, forget imposing a ban on the same. As such, a monkey balancing of this nature isn’t any new to these left liberals, though it would only end up making “The Kerala Story” a huge success. After all, who would like to miss such free publicity on the platter?
