PM Modi in Papua New Guinea: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Papua New Guinea following his visit to Japan. At the airport, PM Modi was greeted by James Marape, the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, who touched his feet. PM Modi then gave James Marape a bear hug. In addition, James Marape welcomed the head of state of any nation late at night, violating protocol. When PM Narendra Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea, he was greeted by a Guard of Honour. Notably, in Papua New Guinea, a ceremonial welcome known as a Guard of Honour is never given after sunset, but an exception was made this time. Reason for all of these was because during the pandemic no one helped the Guinea but it was only India who helped them in crucial phase and gave vaccines and other medical supplies to PNG.

After Japan, PM Narendra Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea. At the airport, PM Modi was greeted by James Marape, the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, who touched his feet. PM Modi then gave James Marape a bear hug. First Indian Prime Minister to visit Papua New Guinea is PM Modi. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to Papua New Guinea. A guard of honour greeted PM Modi in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. In Papua New Guinea, PM Modi also interacted with members of the Indian community.

The third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) will be co-hosted by PM Modi and PM James Marape of Papua New Guinea. PM Modi had expressed his gratitude for the 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) accepting the invitation to attend the significant summit (FIPIC) before departing for Papua New Guinea. From May 22 to May 24, Modi will travel to Australia for the third and last leg of his tour.
