Srisailam Mallikarjun Temple – Guide
The Srisailam Mallikarjun Temple is a famous temple located on the banks of the Krishna River on Mount Srisailam in the southern part of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This scenic temple in Andhra Pradesh is also known as the “Kailash of the South” and is one of the main pilgrimage centres of Lord Shiva. The presiding deities of Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple are Mother Parvathi and Lord Shiva. This place is one of the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This temple is very important for Hindu religion and culture.
History of this Temple
The inscriptions of the Satavahana dynasty related to the history of Srisailam Mallikarjun Temple are proof that this temple existed from the 2nd century. Most of the modern additions to the temple date from the period of King Harihara I of the Vijayanagara Empire. It is believed to be upper lip of mata sati is falling here at Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple. Srisailam Sri Mallikarjuna Swami Temple is one of the 18 Mahashakti Peethas. In 1667 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj got the northern gopuram of this temple constructed and he also built a fine dharamshala for travellers at a short distance from the temple.
Best time to visit Srisailam Mallikarjun Temple
Mahashivaratri festival is celebrated in the month of February or March. The day of Mahashivratri is the beginning of a seven-day period of celebration.
Ugadi festival is celebrated for five days in This festival begins 3 days before Ugadi which is the Telugu New Year. This festival is celebrated in late March or early April.
Shravanmahotsavam festival is celebrated in the month of Hindu month of Shravan which is in August or September. Akhand Shivanam Sankirtan also takes place whole time during the shravan month.

Srisailam Mallikarjun Temple is opens from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the morning and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 6:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 6:00 PM in the evening.
