Sri Kalasthree Temple – Guide
Sri Kalasthree Temple is a famous temple situated in the town of Srikalahasti. Srikalahasti, located in Chittoor district in the southeasters state of Andhra Pradesh, is often referred to as the holy city of southeast India because it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has immense religious significance for Hindus. Srikalahasti Temple was built during the ancient Pallava period. It is believed that people who are troubled by various doshas can offer prayers at this temple for their peace. The temple represents air, one of the five elements.
History of this Temple
According to the history of Sri Kalasthree Temple, a spider, a snake and an elephant worshiped Lord Shiva in the city to attain salvation. The origin of this legend was believed by many religious believers to be a sign and hence, the Srikalahasti temple was built during the Pallava period in the 5th century. Some new structures were built at the Srikalahasti temple during the reign of the Chola Empire during the 16th century and the Vijayanagara dynasty during the 16th century.
The main prayers of this Temple are-
Kalyanotsavam: This abhishekam is performed every day after 10 am in the Srikalahasti temple, for which the devotees have to pay a total of Rs.600.
Unjal Seva: This service is performed on every full moon day at Srikalahasti temple. Devotees who wish to participate in this service are requested to contribute Rs.5000.
Nandi Seva: This seva is performed at Srikalahasti temple on a day chosen by the devotee. He has to pay Rs.7500 for this puja. On that day Sri Swami and Amma Varalu are taken out in procession through the town on the silver Nandi and Singham.

Sri Kalasthree Temple opens at 6:00 AM in the morning and close at 7:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti and Abhishek is performed at 6:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 6:00 PM in the evening.

By Air- The nearest airport from Sri Kalasthree Temple is Tirupati railway station which is located at a distance of 35 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.
By Train- The nearest railway station from Sri Kalasthree Temple is Srikalahasti railway station which is at a distance of 3 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.
By Road- Any public transport can be taken from Srikalahasti Bus Stand. Which is about 2 kilometers away from the temple complex. Public transport can be availed from any part of Srikalahasti Town. To reach this temple you have to reach Srikalahasti Town from any part of the country because roads are well connected with the town.
