Shri Puri Jagannath Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath Which is Lord Shri Krishna located on the east coast of India at Puri in the state of Odisha. Apart from this, it is a popular tourist destination and pilgrimage centre. Where lakhs of tourists come to see the temple. The meaning of the word Jagannath is the lord of the world or the world. That is why this city is called Jagannathpuri or Puri. This temple is a temple of Vaishnava sect dedicated to Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple is considered one of the four dhams of Hindus.
History of this Temple
According to the evidence received from the Ganga dynasty, the construction of the Jagannath Puri temple was started by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of Kalinga. This king had constructed the Jagmohan and Vimana part of the temple during his reign i.e. 1078 to 1148. After this, in 1197, Bhim Dev, the ruler of Odisha, got the present form of this temple built.
It is believed that worship is being done in the Jagannath temple since 1448. But in the same year an Afghan invaded Odisha and destroyed the idols and temple of Lord Jagannath. But later, when King Ramchandra Dev established his independent kingdom in Khurda, the Jagannath temple and its idols were replaced again. Since then the facility of darshan is available in this temple.
Best time to visit Puri Jagannath Temple
Rath Yatra festival of Jagannath Puri temple is famous all over the world. Once a year in the month of June-July, the Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out. This Rath Yatra Festival lasts for 10 days.

Puri Jagannath Temple opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and close at 10:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 5:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 9:00 PM in the evening.

By Air- The nearest airport from Puri Jagannath Temple is Bhubaneswar airport which is at a distance of 60 km away from the temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.
By Train- The nearest railway station from Puri Jagannath Temple is Khurda road railway station which is at a distance of 44 km away from the temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.
By Road- There is a bus stand near Gundicha Temple from where buses ply to Puri. Apart from this, one can also reach here by bus from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack. There are also many buses plying from Kolkata and Visakhapatnam to Puri.
