Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple – Guide
Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a cave temple which is a limestone cave located at a distance of 14 km from Gangolihat in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. This cave is located in Bhubaneswar village. This grand and tourist cave has become the centre of faith of the devotees due to its attractive qualities. It is believed that this cave contains Lord Shiva and thirty three koti Gods and Goddesses in Hindu culture. The Patal Bhubaneswar cave has a narrow tunnel-like opening that leads to several caves here.
History of this Temple
It is known from the history of Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple that King Rituparna of Surya dynasty discovered the cave in ‘Treta Yuga’. It has been explained in ‘Manas Kand’ of ‘Skanda Purana’. Adi Shankaracharya came to this cave in 1191 AD and he kept this cave closed. It is believed that the Pandavas worshiped Lord Shiva during the Mahabharata period. This cave temple is associated with the stories of Lord Shiva. Patal Bhubaneswar Cave Temple is considered as an ancient tourist destination of Uttarakhand.
Patal Bhubaneswar is not just a cave temple created by the flow of water. Rather it is known as a series of caves within caves. According to ancient stories, Lord Shiva played Chaupad here with the Pandavas.

Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and close at 8:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 6:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 7:00 PM in the evening.
