Delwara Jain Temple – Guide

Delwara Jain Temple is the most beautiful pilgrimage site for Jains situated amidst the Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan. This temple was built between 11th and 13th century by Vastupala Tejpal. The temple is famous for its intricate carvings and for being adorned with marble from every corner. This Jain temples are situated at a distance of about 2½ kilometers from Mount Abu.

History of this Temple

Delwara Jain Temple was built by Vimal Shah in the 11th and 13th centuries AD and was designed by Vastupal-Tejpal, the Jain ministers of Dholka. These temples are known for their intricate marble carvings. The most surprising thing about this temple is that at that time there was no facility to carry such huge blocks of marble at a height of 1200 meters. Then elephants were used to carry marble from Ambaji to Mount Abu on their backs.

The grand Delwara Jain Temple consists of five equally built temples namely Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pittalhar, Parshwanath and Mahaveer Swami Temple. These temples are dedicated to Lord Adinath, Lord Rishabhbho, Lord Neminath, Lord Mahavir Swami and Lord Parshvanath respectively.
