Brahmin Welfare Board: Brahmins : A community that you cannot just restrict to either a term or a mould. What they can do, what they are capable of, is something even they aren’t mostly aware of. This is probably why the MP govt. has taken a gamble that could change the fortunes of the ruling dispensation.
Brahmin Welfare Board: A revolutionary move on Parshuram Jayanti
On the auspicious occasion of Parshuram Jayanti, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan made a bold move. He announced that henceforth, there shall be no restrictions over the auction of properties related to temples. Apart from that, the priestly community shall have the exclusive right over the sale and acquisition of the aforementioned properties.
What does this signify? For years, people were demanding negligible to zero interference by the government in temple affairs. Now upholding the aspirations of the masses, the MP Govt has decided to constitute a Brahmin Welfare Board in this regard.
As he announced the decision, the CM also mentioned, “There is no denying the fact that Brahmins have always held Dharma as supreme and have sacrificed their all to preserve it. We all feel proud that the Brahmins have immensely contributed to the cause of spiritualism, imparting knowledge, and preserving intricate traditions like Yoga, Ayurveda, as well as the Sanatana culture. Brahmins have left no stone unturned in preserving the cultural traditions of our nation. There are innumerable scholars like Vedvyasa ji, who authored the Maharabharata, or Tulsidas, who simplified the Ramayana. They’re the guardians of the Dharma, and hence it is only that we constitute a Brahmin Welfare Board for the same.”

Brahmin Welfare Board: What will be the impact?
As of now, none realize the impact Brahmin Welfare Board decision will have, both electorally and culturally. A few months ago, the government of Karnataka had implemented an order on the same grounds, announcing the revocation of government control over the temples.
So, has this decision been taken in the wake of the upcoming legislative elections in MP? Maybe, maybe not. It comes as no surprise that Brahmins have a significant say in the culture, as well as the political equation of Madhya Pradesh.
In 2018, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party had suffered electoral loss due to the displeasure of this very community, mostly because of the amendments done to the SC/ST Act. This led to a massive uproar amongst the upper castes, especially Brahmins, who were not unaware of the excesses of the amendments. While this might be a significant reason, it is not the only reason why CM Chauhan has decided to liberate temples from govt. control.

The dawn of a new era
Following the landmark victory in the Ram Janmbhoomi case, a massive campaign has been launched to liberate India’s temples from government control. The masses are unequivocal in this demand.
Not only that, it is also imperative that to culturally empower India, revolutionary decisions like these must be taken. As Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP, Assam and Karnataka are already doing their best, why should a state like MP stay behind in such a noble cause?
