History of this Temple
According to history of Baidyanath Dham Temple once King Ravana felt that his capital was incomplete. So he prayed to Lord Shiva to accompany him to Lanka. For this, Ravana did continuous penance to Lord Shiva, after which Lord Shiva was pleased and told him that he could not go with Ravana to Lanka but he allowed a Shivling to be taken to Lanka.
Along with this, he told Ravana not to keep this Shivling anywhere on the way because it will be established at the place where it is kept. When Ravana went to immerse the urine, that cowherd put down the Shiva Linga. When Ravana returned, he tried hard to lift the Shivling but he did not budge. After this Ravana had to go to Lanka empty handed. After Ravana returned to Lanka, all the deities installed this Shiva Linga and worshiped here.
