Physics Wallah controversy: The day Alakh Pandey decided to become an internet sensation is the day Physics Wallah died

Physics Wallah controversy

Physics Wallah controversy: Indian tradition has always considered imparting education a duty that cannot be commercialised. But with the passage of time, education became commercialised. And it was a need of the time. However, it comes with a moral obligation to prefer quality education over commercial interests. The competition started the culture of coaching institutes. Now that the online coaching trend has acquired prominence, the worst face of this development is surfacing.

Physics wallah controversy

Controversy started when a dramatic incident similar to a TV soap opera has occurred in the ed-tech platform Physics Wallah, where a group of teachers has been exchanging criticisms and some have even resigned from the company. According to media reports, three Physics Wallah teachers, Tarun Kumar, Manish Dubey, and Sarvesh Dixit, left the organisation due to differences with its founder, Alakh Pandey. The chemistry teacher of Physics Wallah accused the trio of receiving a bribe from a rival platform, Adda24/7, to leave the startup.

The three former Physics Wallah teachers have started their own YouTube channel called Sankalp after their resignation. On their channel, they criticise Physics Wallah, stating that the organisation’s primary goal of providing good, affordable education has been sidelined as it has grown.

The conflict between the former Physics Wallah teachers and the current ones has worsened, with the former three teachers breaking down and yelling over the allegation of receiving a bribe of 5 crore. The video has received 2.1 million views in just one day.

While the teachers may have received some support on YouTube, netizens on other social media platforms have criticised the former teachers, saying that airing their grievances publicly was inappropriate.

The disgusting face of coaching institutions

It is noteworthy that coaching centres have become an outlet for selling education in which the career of students has taken a back seat. The long course in the development of coaching institutions shows that whenever any coaching gains prominence, a faction of teachers separates itself to start another institute, which in turn witnesses the same fate.

This was evident at the Kota factory, where Bansal Classes teachers split to form their own coachings. Similar is the case with Physics Wallah, but this time it has become more disgusting. Imagine a dramatic action, and that too on a prerecorded video. That itself shows that the teachers wanted to gain publicity.

And doing so, they just wanted to gain people’s sympathy in order to capitalise on their new initiative, ‘Sankalp’. This is actually the worst manifestation of the harsh reality of the coaching business in India. It is high time the students and parents understand the intentions and strategies of fame-and money-seeking teachers.
