Holi sales: This year’s Holi delicacies, Gujhiyas, will be sweeter than normal as India is all set to record high sales on Holi. Unlike earlier holiday seasons, China will not be able to consume a large chunk of our holiday shopping.
China feels the heat as India’s domestic holiday Holi sales hit record highs
As per the traders’ body, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the festival season of Holi may generate a business worth Rs 25,000 crore this year. This is approximately 25 percent more than the sales that traders and retailers registered last year.
CAIT claims that around Rs 1,500 crore worth of businesses could be registered in the Delhi region alone. And the trade will be devoid of Chinese goods. Earlier, India had imported Holi-related goods — primarily, colours, balloons, and toys—are worth around Rs 10,000 crore annually.
Delhi is slated to hold more than three thousand Holi get-togethers and joint public celebrations of the auspicious festival. According to CAIT, retailers and dealers across India saw a 30% increase in Holi sales from the prior year, generating revenue of about Rs 20,000 crore without the sale of any Chinese goods.

The rampant sale of Chinese goods during the festive season not only sidelined the Indian artisans but also increased the nation’s trade deficit. Consequently, this soured the festivities. But not anymore. Recently, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also nudged Indian consumers, traders, and customers to learn to prefer local products over cheap imports to boost their domestic market and citizens.
The all-time high sales during Holi season, without cheap chinese imports eating into them, is also a big plus. It gives hope that both industries—consumers and those who would be followed by government directives like banning certain products—can completely eliminate chinese products from many sectors of the Indian market. With herbal gulal to environment crackers, India has to sustain this trend and make every festival and normal day Chinese product free, as far as possible, and make China feel the heat for its hostilities towards India. Happy Holi!
