Located in Dev of Aurangabad district of Bihar, Dev Mandir included in the heritage list of the state is situated on a hill called Umga, hence it looks even more attractive when viewed from a distance. Historical Sun Temple The main gate of this temple opens towards the west. It is said that this temple was built by Lord Vishwakarma with his own hands. According to the Sanskrit verse written outside this temple, King Ilaputra Pururva Ail started the construction of this Sun Temple after 12 lakh 16 thousand years of Treta Yuga had passed.

History of this Temple

Aurangabad Dev Mandir was built in the 9th century. This temple is similar to the Konark Sun Temple. This Sun Temple is 100 feet high. It is built in two parts. Dev Shilpi Lord Vishwakarma built this temple in a single night. Victory symbol and urn are inscribed in it. It appears from the architecture of the temple that Nagara style has been used in it. This temple is made of black stones, it is such a temple in the world whose main face is west.

Once Aurangzeb reached here while breaking the idols and temples, the priests of the Dev temple pleaded with him not to break this temple, then he laughed and said that if your deity had the same power, I would have given time tonight. I will not break this temple if its face will be from east to west. After this the priests of the Dev temple accepted it by bowing their heads. Overnight the door of the temple went from east to west.
