Raipur Banjari Mata Temple is located in a place named Birgaon Ravanbhatha in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh state. This temple is famous all over Chhattisgarh by the name of Banjari Mata Mandir. It is told about the idol installed in the temple that this idol was found only during the excavation here. This idol, excavated from the barren land, was established in the shape of a betel nut. The idol established here is considered to be the Kuldevi of the people of Banjara caste, that is why the goddess established here is known as Banjari Devi.

History of this Temple

About 500 years ago, during the reign of the Mughal rulers, there used to be a small temple, which was established as a grand temple 40 years ago. The idol of Mata became famous by the name of Banjari Devi because of its appearance from the barren land.

Banjari Mata is considered to be the family deity of Banjara caste people roaming all over the country, that is why Banjaras used to worship in this temple. Later, the name of Raipur Banjari Mata Temple was changed to Raipur Banjari Mata Temple. But this statue of Banjari Mata located here has special recognition for Tantrik worship due to its Bagulamukhi form.
