During the Uttar Pradesh assembly’s budget session on the sixth day, an unusual altercation transpired between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav regarding the murder of a key witness in the 2005 murder of a BSP MLA that occurred on Friday.
Yogi Adityanath criticized the SP government for allegedly enabling the proliferation of criminals and mafia in the state, claiming that they have caused extensive harm to the people of Uttar Pradesh. He asserted that the SP’s support of criminals has tarnished the state’s image and impeded its progress. Akhilesh Yadav, in defense of his party, argued that their administration has implemented several measures to combat crime and corruption.
Nevertheless, Yogi Adityanath rebuffed his claims and maintained that the SP has failed to take any substantial action to enhance the security situation in the state.

The whole story
One such instance happened during the contentious discussion and heated responses, where the CM said that Akhilesh Yadav should be ashamed for not respecting his late father, Mulayam Singh Yadav. This came after a contentious discussion between the two about Friday’s assassination of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj.
Earlier, in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, Umesh Pal served as a key witness. Former SP MP Atiq Ahmed and his sibling Khalid Azim, another SP leader, are the main suspects. Mafia don turned politician Atiq Ahmed was used as an example by Yogi Adityanath to demonstrate how the Samajwadi Party supported and glorified organised mafia groups and criminals.
CM stated, “Is it not true that the Samajwadi Party appointed the mafia, against whom the victim’s family had filed a FIR, an MP?” Yogi Adityanath also emphasised his government’s attempts to dismantle the organised mafia in the state by saying, “Mafia ko mitti mei mila denge.”
Akhilesh Yadav objected to the CM’s remarks, claiming that he had no right to use the phrase “mafia ko mitti mei mila denge.” The government, he claimed, cannot take action against the mafia because that would be against the law; only the law could do that.

“Mafia ko mitti mei mila denge”
The speaker refuted him by claiming that making threats against the mafia is not wrong, but the SP head wouldn’t budge, insisting that it is incorrect to state “mafia ko mitti mei mila denge.”
Yogi Adityanath continued to mock the SP, pointing out that the party is opposed to prosecuting criminals. He claimed that SP had previously stated “ladke hai galti kar dete hai,” therefore this is nothing new. He was alluding to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s infamous rape comment that “boys make mistakes.”
CM also expressed his surprise that the same people are suddenly discussing security and democracy. The Chief Minister’s use of his father’s famous remark angered Akhilesh Yadav, who reacted by saying to Yogi, “sharam ane chahiye” (you should be ashamed).
However, Yogi Adityanath quickly retorted by saying, “Sharam toh tumhe karni chahiye, jo apne baap ki samman nahi kar paye tum (you should be ashamed, you couldn’t respect even your father).”
The BJP representative claimed that the opposition is “proud” to refer to Uttar Pradesh as a “bimaru rajya,” which indicates their ambitions for the state.
