Actor Jugal Hansraj Biography: There is a saying that if you chase two rabbits, both will escape. That is why, it is always advisable to avoid rowing two boats at the same time. Evidently, the cinematic debacle of Bollywood actor and director Jugal Hansraj is a classic case study for the same.
Traversing the Cinematic journey: From a child actor to leading roles in Bollywood
Born in Mumbai in 1972, Actor Jugal Hansraj made his acting debut as a child artist in 1983. In the film “Masoom”, he was seen alongside Urmila Matondkar, prominent child artist of that time. After the movie release, there was a strong buzz applauding Jugal’s role in the film.
Afterwards, he got many prominent opportunities to work as a child artist. A few among them includes ‘Jhutha Sach’ (1984), ‘Sultanat’ (1986), ‘Karma’ (1986), ‘Loha’ (1987) and ‘Hukumat’ (1987) among others.
Owing to the successful roles in these films, Actor Jugal Hansraj got wider recognition and admiration. In 1994, he made his debut as a lead actor. Coincidentally, in the film “Aa Gale Lag Jaa”, he was cast opposite Urmila Matondkar. It performed well commercially, propelling his career as a lead actor forward.
Going ahead, Actor Jugal Hansraj appeared in the lead role in ‘Papa Kehte Hain’. The film failed to do good business but its songs casted spell on listeners. One such song, “Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, Kuch Door Chalte Hi” was a super hit.
But, alongside acting, the actor started diverting his attention towards composing and direction, laying the foundation for his own downfall. In 1998, he wrote the title track for the film, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” which later became a success mantra for Dharma production. Director Karan Johar revealed this fact in his book, “An Unsuitable Boy”.
In 2000, “Mohabbatein” was released, originally it was planned as Aditya Chopra’s debut film. However, it was released after “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).”
The film was a hit and its star-cast were praised for their roles. Unlike Jimmy Shergil and Uday Chopra, Actor Jugal Hansraj struggled to maintain a successful acting and filmmaking career, unable to entertain the masses or offer a unique perspective.

The downfall
He had strong ties with the Chopra family and Karan Johar and he didn’t lack opportunities. For example – he directed a film for YRF and appeared in the animated film ‘Roadside Romeo.’ But both his directorial debut ‘Pyaar Impossible’ and ‘Roadside Romeo’ proved to be box office failures, leading to a decline in opportunities for Actor Jugal Hansraj in the film industry.
2015 onwards, he tried making a comeback by riding the OTT wave, yet he failed miserably. Neither his writing nor his acting could impress the audiences on OTT. As stated above Actor Jugal Hansraj didn’t fail due to lack opportunities but because he wanted to be Jack of all and master at none. His attitude of trying luck in virtually every aspect of cinematography without giving it its due share of time and hard work became the weakest nerve in his career.
