Kejriwal G20 scam

Kejriwal G20 scam: Often ‘Netas’ enter into the political arena pledging social work. However, with time, the motive turns into filling their own coffers. The Indian public was accustomed to it when a man in simple shirt pants and muffler claimed that he would change the politics of India. His infamous line was, “Hum Rajneeti badalne aaye hai.” But, with time, it seems that Kejriwal is preparing for Commonwealth 2.0.

Delhi to host major G20 events

India is hosting the G20 summit this time after taking over its presidency from Indonesia. Most of the important events will take place in the national capital. Starting from the 1st of March, Delhi will be hosting eight major events including the main summit in September. The preparations for the event have begun and for that, the Delhi government has approached the central government for funds.

Sisodia asks Centre for funds

Before the G20 event, the Delhi government has planned several beautification drives. And for that, they have asked the central government for funds.

Manish Sisodia has written to union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying that it is a matter of pride for the Delhiites that the summit is held in their city. And for that, the Delhi government needs centre’s financial assistance for the same.

Sisodia further wrote, “You would be aware that Delhi government has not received any financial support from the central government as its share from the central taxes. It also does not receive any extra grants from the Centre.” The letter has been written seeking Rs 927 crore for the revamp.

War of words between BJP and AAP

Sisodia has said that it would not be an easy task for the Delhi government to spend an additional amount of over 900 crores for G20 preparations from its “limited regular resources”.

The BJP has taken a jibe over the Kejriwal government asking money from the centre, as the former has been on a spree of distributing freebies to win elections not only in Delhi but also in other states as well.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, “The Kejriwal government has all along claimed to have a surplus budget… Hence, it is shocking to see Sisodia seeking money from the Centre.”

Is Kejriwal preparing for Commonwealth 2.0?

None of us will forget the scam that happened in the name of India hosting the Commonwealth games. It involved the pilferage of around Rs 70,000 crores. Well, the current one seeking funds is busy announcing and distributing revadis. And thus, many may find their intentions questionable. Is this Kejriwal G20 scam the preparation for Commonwealth 2.0 or it is just an attempt to involve the Union Government into a war of words by the Aam Aadmi Party, this only time can tell.
