Tijara Jain Mandir, Alwar – Guide
Tijara Jain Mandir is a popular pilgrimage centre for Jains, located 110 km from Delhi and 55 km from Alwar on the Delhi-Alwar Highway. The Tijara Jain Temple, established in the year 1956, is dedicated to the eight Jain Tirthankaras, that is, the Jain Dharma Gurus. Which is considered an important centre for the Jain community and remains popular with Jains as well as ancient history lovers.
History of this Temple
The history of the Tijara Jain Mandir dates back to 1956, when during an excavation a 15-inch tall white marble idol of Chandra Prabhu, the main deity of the temple, in the padmasana posture was discovered. According to some old scriptures, it was on the 3rd day of Vaishakh Shukla of Vikram Samvat 1554. And then in the year 1972, another 8 inch tall idol of Chandra Prabhu in lotus position was discovered. These findings strengthen the belief that the site was once a Dehra or place of worship for the Jains.
