History of this Temple
The description of this Shakti Mandir Uttarakhand is found in Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana. It is said that this trident was used by Goddess Durga to kill demons. Goddess Durga is also known as Shakti. According to the legend, once there was a fierce war between the gods and the demons.
When the deities were defeated by the demons in this war, all the deities pray to Maa Durga. As a result, Goddess Durga assumed the form of ‘Shakti’ and killed the demons. Thereafter, Goddess Durga ensconced in the form of divine ‘Shakti’ near the Vishwanath Temple. For this reason this temple is called Shakti Mandir.
