This temple is similar to the famous Lord Jagannath Temple located in Orissa. Although this temple is much smaller than that in size, due to which it can be called the miniature Puri Jagannath temple.

History of this Temple

Pahari Jagannath Temple Ranchi was built in 1691 AD. This temple was built by Thakur Anish Nath Shahdev, the great king of Barkagarh. The construction of the temple and the sanctum sanctorum is completely made of marble stone, in which the founder and establishment year of the temple has been told. The foundation of this temple was laid by Vaishnavism and its founder Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

It is believed that when many people started leaving Hinduism around the 17th century, the religious leaders of Hinduism started building many other ancient temples like Jagannath Temple to maintain the identity of Hinduism. Some part of this temple had collapsed in the year 1990 AD. The then Bihar government renovated the temple and due to which this temple has regained its lost glory. The original temple has been constructed in the form of a fort.
