Naina Devi Mandir – Guide
A famous Shakti Peeth of Hinduism, Naina Devi Mandir is a holy place of great devotion in Nainital. Goddess Naini Devi is the presiding deity of the Naini Devi Temple and is situated at the northern end of the famous Nainital Lake. In this holy temple, the goddess is represented by her two eyes. Devotees from far and wide come here to seek the blessings of Maa Naina Devi. The temple is situated atop the Naina Hill near the Naini Lake, and attracts thousands of devotees every year.
History of this Temple
The fame of Naina Devi Mandir is also in the form of main Shakti Peethas. The mention of Naina Devi Mandir is found in the Kushan period. This temple was built in 15th AD, the idol of Naina Devi Temple was installed in 1842 by a devotee Moti Ram Shah. This temple was destroyed by a landslide in 1880. Later it was rebuilt.
The Shakti form of Sati is worshiped here. “Naina Devi” is worshiped in the Naina Devi temple and this temple is situated in the northern Siri end of the Naini lake. The special thing about this temple is that the goddess of this temple is not sitting in the temple in its full glory, but only two eyes of the goddess are sitting in the temple.

Naina Devi Mandir opens at 6:00 AM in the morning and close at 10:00 PM in the evening. Aarti Timings of this temple is 7:00 AM in the morning and 7:00 PM in the evening.

How to reach Naina Devi Mandir
By Air- The temple is located 55 km from Pantnagar airport. From here you can hire a local taxi cab to reach the temple.
By Train- Naina Devi Mandir is 35 km away from the nearest railway station which is Kathgodam Railway Station. You can hire a taxi from the railway station to reach the temple.
By Road- It is located at a distance of 3 km from Nainital City Bus Stand. You can easily walk to the temple or hire a local rickshaw or auto rickshaw.
