Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir Vindhyachal – Guide
Vindhyachal Temples are famous for Goddess Vindhyavasani, one of the nine goddesses of Hinduism and one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. The Vindhyavasani Temples are located in the Vindhyachal town close to Mirzapur and Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Many scenic temples are built near Vindhyavasani Devi Temple. Holy abode of Goddess Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir situated on Vindhyachal mountain is spreading its fame in all directions.
History of this Temple
The generosity of Vindhyachal and Goddess Vindhyavasini has been mentioned in many ancient scriptures and texts of India. Some of these special texts are found in Markandeya Purana, Matsya Purana, Mahabharata, Vamana Purana, Devi Bhagavata, Raja Tarangini, Brihat Katha, Harivansh Purana, Skanda Purana, Kadambari and many Tantra Shastras. Especially in the Markandeya Purana, a detailed description of the war between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura is seen.

Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir Vindhyachal opens from 5:00 am to 12:00 noon in the morning and from 1:30 to 7:15 pm in the evening and From 8:15 pm to 10:30 pm in the night. You can visit this Temple in these timings.

Kankali Devi Temple
Kankali Devi Temple derives its name from Kankal, which means skeleton or Maa Kali. It is said that in order to destroy the demons, Goddess Durga took the form of Goddess Kali and destroyed the wicked.

Ramgaya Ghat is about 2 kilometers from Vindhyachal. Lord Rama is believed to have prayed at this place for the peace of the souls of his parents.
Ashtabhuja Temple
The famous Ashtabhuja Temple of Vindhyachal is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of literature, learning and wisdom. It is believed that Ashtabhuja Devi was born as the sister of Lord Shri Krishna whom Asuraraj Kansa tried to kill.
Sita Kund
Sita Kund is the place where Shri Lakshman pierced the ground with his arrow to quench the thirst of Mother Sita during the exile, from where water was received and Mother Sita quenched the thirst of her throat with this water.
Kali Khoh Temple
Kali Khoh Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is built in the form of a cave. Goddess Kali is believed to have incarnated to kill the demon Raktabeej.
Rameshwar Mahadev Temple
Rameshwar Mahadev Temple situated at Rameshwar Ghat is situated at a distance of about 8 km from Mirzapur. This temple is only one kms away from Vindhyavasini Devi Temple. Ancient legends reveal that the Shivling established by Lord Rama is present in this temple.
