Ambaji Mandir, Banaskantha – Guide

Ambaji Mandir located in Banaskantha district of Gujarat is a famous temple of Durga Mata. Temple situated on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. This temple One of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Maa Bhavani, this temple has immense reverence among the devotees of the mother.

The heart of Mother Sati had fallen here. Here the holy Shree Yantra of the mother is mainly worshiped. It is worshiped only by blindfolding. The original seat of Ambaji is on top of the Gabbar hill.

History of this Temple

Ambaji Mandir is worshiped since early Vedic times and the goddess is accepted as Arasur. Ambe Maa as the temple is situated on the top of the Aravalli Hills. Ambaji Temple is widely known as one of the most important Shakti Peethas and it is well known that people around the area keep chanting Ambaji’s name as a holy hymn.

Historically, no idol or picture of the goddess has ever been seen, although the priests painted the inner area above the ceiling in a way that shows the radiant image of the goddess. History of Ambaji Temple says that Ambaji Temple has a strong tantric past and famous devotee Batuk Tantrik is associated with this temple.

Ambaji Mandir Timings

Ambaji Mandir opens every morning for darshan of Ambe Maa Yantra. The temple has darshan from 7 am to 9:15 pm in summer. On the other hand, during the rainy days, the temple remains open for darshan from 7 am to 9 pm. Whereas in winters the temple has darshan only from 7 am to 8 pm. Mother’s aarti is done every morning at 6 o’clock. Madhyan Aarti takes place from 7 AM to 8 AM, Rajbhog Aarti at 12 Noon and Sandhya Aarti from 7 PM to 7:30 PM.

Kumbhariya

Kumbhariya Ambaji Temple is 1.5 km away from the town. Kumbhariya is a village of historical, archaeological and religious importance with cultural heritage in Banaskantha district. It houses the historic Jain temple of Shri Neminath Bhagwan which dates back to the 13th century.

Mansarovar

Mansarovar is behind the main temple. It is said to have been built from 1584 to 1594 by Shri Tapishankar, a nagar bhakta of Ambaji, Ahmedabad. There are two temples on the two banks of this holy lake, one of Mahadev and the other of Ajay Devi, who is believed to be the sister of Mata Ambaji.

It is also an important source of Ambaji’s history that the Ajay Devi Temple has an ancient monument of script writing and old carvings on the rock stone “Shilalekh” of the Hindu calendar Samvat year 1415, King Maldev.

How to reach Ambaji Mandir

By Air- The nearest airport to Ambaji Mandir is the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, which is at a distance of 186 km from Ambaji Temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest major railway station to Ambaji Mandir is Palanpur, which is at a distance of about 40 km from this temple and Abu Road Railway Station which is about 20 km away from here. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Regular bus services operate from all major cities of Gujarat to Danta Ambaji. Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Palanpur and Gandhinagar are well connected to Danta via roadways with many private taxi services and government and private buses.
