Bombay HC order about Stray dogs: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday requested a peaceful resolution between the management of Seawoods Estate Limited and dog lovers from the community regarding the issue of stray dogs. The court observed that providing food and care to stray dogs could prevent them from becoming aggressive, and that feeding them had resolved the issue of strays in the Bombay High Court.
The court did note, however, that once designated areas were identified, the responsibility for feeding, sterilising, vaccinating, and neutering the dogs would fall on volunteers. This remark was made during the hearing of a petition filed by six residents of a residential complex in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, requesting that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) identify and demarcate feeding stations for stray dogs in public places.

During the hearing, Advocate Abha Singh suggested that the stray dogs be placed in shelter homes, but Andhyarujina pointed out that denying food to a stray is considered cruelty under the Act. Justice Patel expressed concern about the potential harm that changing environments could cause for older dogs, leaving the question of their fate open.
Finally, the Bombay High Court sought a peaceful resolution to the stray dog problem by encouraging the provision of food and care to keep them from becoming aggressive. While volunteers would be responsible for feeding and caring for the dogs, the court emphasised the importance of identifying dedicated feeding stations in public places.
The court’s observations highlighted the importance of humane treatment of stray animals, but the question of how to deal with older dogs and their potential relocation remained unanswered.
