Uri, Balakot and Galwan: Dr. S. Jaishankar outlines why India matters to the world

Gone are those days when ‘Globally Inconsequential India’ used to harp for diplomatic shelter to cover up the transgressions of foreign terrorism. The ‘New India’ has developed a refurbished vigour to go ‘all guns blazing’ against any evil eye that tries to carry out any devilish agenda against the nation. India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has adopted a decisively aggressive counter offensive policy of “नया हिन्दुस्तान, जो घर में घुसकर मारेगा”.

Cold start, hit hard strategy of India

To tackle any potential attacks and prospective incursions, the military and air defence capabilities of the nation has been revamped, with better equipped troops stationed along the LOC and LAC borders. Further, the nation has developed a “cold start” military doctrine to launch a rapid and decisive conventional military response to tackle any prospective terrorist attack with improved intelligence gathering and analysis capabilities.

Additionally, India has been engaging with other countries to build an international coalition against terrorism and to strengthen the counterterrorism capabilities. These include sharing intelligence, law enforcement cooperation and collaborating military operations. However, the key role in garnering international interests towards India owes it to the formidable efforts undertaken by the erudite statesmanship of the present Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

Dr. Jaishankar the stalwart behind rising India

The bureaucrat turned politician, Dr. S. Jaishankar had been constantly hitting the limelight owing to his impregnable approach of shattering foreign propaganda against India. The Foreign Minister has been instrumental in propagating India-centric narrative on global platforms. Further, on the domestic front, the Minister has ensured transparency with respect to the foreign policy of the nation. The recent speech of the Foreign Minister at the 53rd anniversary day of Thuglak Magazine in Chennai adds to the long list of deliberations that won the hearts of a billion citizens.

During the event, the Foreign Minister laid emphasis on ‘Why India matters to the world?’ He also elaborated on the key role played by the government in raising national consciousness to nurture the reservoir of talents along with boosting the image of the nation on the international front. He opined that the contribution of this matrix along with the strong and effective national leadership has broken the shackles of imperialist hangover and portrayed India as a democracy that can deliver.

Why does India matter to the World?

The Foreign Minister pointed out that India has broken free from the previous notions of a society that was a playing field for others, as the nation heads towards becoming a dominant global player. Interestingly the minister also highlighted that India’s long-suffering approach had created the danger of normalizing terrorism. Alluding to the examples of Uri, Balakot and Galwan which had sent the much-needed message, Dr. Jaishankar said the nation will not be coerced by anybody.

As per the minister, the Chinese had been trying hard to unequivocally change the status quo. But despite the Covid restrictions, the Indian army turned them black and blue in the counter response. The minister also gave due credit to the valour of the Indian troops that are deployed in the thousands, in the most extreme terrains and harshest of weather conditions, to safeguard national security. The sheer determination of the Indian Armed forces showed the world that only India can muzzle the Chinese and cut to size the expansionist agendas of the PLA.

However, the speech of Dr Jaishankar in entirety brings out the essence of why India has found a centre stage in the global order. The unparalleled military might along with a determined leadership has created an ideal platform for bringing the growth story of New India on the correct track. Further, the rich cultural past coupled with raised national consciousness post 2014, has contributed significantly in boosting the national aspirations to meet the ideals of “Vishwa Guru’.

That is to say, the New India of 2023 is all set to take on all the global challenges on its own. The nation is ready to facilitate the world with life transforming innovations that will position India as a key player in the renewed global order.
