History of Periyapalayam Temple
The Main deity of the Periyapalayam Temple is the sister of Lord Krishna. Amman escapes from the clutches of a demon king named Kansa. She then warned the demon about her death and settled in the Periyapalayam Temple as Sri Bhavani. She is Krishna’s sister, born in the womb of Krishna’s foster mother Yashoda. When Nanda brought Krishna to his home in Yashoda, he returned to the cell with his newborn girl to deceive Kansa. This was the cell where the demon king locked Krishna’s birth parents.
The king thought that the girl was Devaki’s eighth child and wanted to kill her. However, the girl transformed herself into a goddess and told Kansa that it was useless to kill Krishna as he had already taken birth in the world, and then the goddess disappeared.
