Dear Nawazuddin, you are a manufactured star. Stop taking yourself so seriously

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

There is a wise old saying stating that ‘Work is worship’. It considers that no work, if done correctly and morally, is inferior to others. But there is an arrogant contrarian viewpoint to this wise and humble mantra. As per their narcissistic belief, doers start to consider themselves greater than the ‘game’ itself. They consider themselves as Godly. The case in point is Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It seems that he has started taking some of his movies’ dialogue too seriously and living his life in that false bravado.

Cutting the steps’ of the ladder through which he rose to prominence

In the radiance and grandeur of big talk, so-called liberal ideas and cool terminology like ‘Swag of being the centre of attraction’, several individuals start to sway away from their roots. They start taking steps that demonstrate that they are completely cut off from the ground realities. The same thing seems to be happening with Faisal Khan famed Nawazuddin Siddiqui. To enjoy the privilege of ‘solo Hero movies’, he has hinted that he doesn’t want to remain as a sidekick anymore.

In an interview with ETimes, Nawazuddin Siddiqui stated that he will no longer do small or cameo roles in films even if someone offers him Rs 25 crores to do the part.

He said, “I am done with that (small roles). Ab toh aap mujhe Rs 25 crore bhi denge toh bhi main chhota role nahi karunga. (Translation – Now, I won’t do a small role even if you offer me Rs 25 crore for the part). “

He tried to rationalise his future strategy by preaching that money and fame are just by-products of the work. Sounding like a motivational speaker, he stated that if you just do your job well, money and fame will run after you. If you chase them, one will never find them, so just keep doing good work.

Critical Analysis of Nawazuddin’s performances as Protagonist

Nawazuddin Siddiqui began his cinematic career with small roles. He even acted in projects where he had just a few scenes. He tasted success with small roles in films like ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Shool’ and ‘Munnabhai MBBS’. The year 2012, proved to be a jackpot for him. His seven films were released in that year. Out of them, films like ‘Kahaani’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ and ‘Talaash’ were successful at the box office. But in all of them, he was not the protagonist rather performed well and gave impact with his performances.

Later, audiences praised his short stints in movies like ‘Kick’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.

No denying the fact that Nawazuddin Siddiqui has given several unmissable performances. One of his best performances include his role as Saajan Fernandez in ‘The Lunchbox’. For this role, he was bestowed with the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

But Nawazuddin Siddiqui has nothing impressive to show when he is entrusted as the main lead of the film. He has rarely excelled in the lead roles be it ‘Freaky Ali’, ‘Haramkhor’, ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ or ‘Manto’. The less said on his character in Heropanti 2, the better. Injustice with characters in many of his outings proves the fact Nawazuddin Siddiqui is just an actor who is much hyped and manufactured by PR lobbies.

Further, Nawazuddin Siddiqui seems to be forgetting that it is not the length of the role rather the impact of the roles that holds greater significance and attracts love and respect from the viewers. The Hindi Entertainment industry has a plethora of evidence to back this up. Several actors with their crisp and unforgettable cameos have infused life in their respective movies/web series. In many cases they have belittled the ‘main leads’ with their stellar acting performances.

Now, his future projects will tell whether he can pull  movies on his shoulders or his statements come out to be just mere big talk. His future lines up includes the following -He will appear in the role of a transwoman in the film, ‘Haddi’. Then, he will act in Tiku Weds Sheru that will be made by Kangana Ranaut’s production house. Later, he will also be seen in ‘Bole Chudiyan’, ‘Jogira Sa Ra Ra Ra’ and ‘Afwah’.

Additionally, the majority of his roles can be easily grouped in two categories – lunatic comedy or psychotic criminal. He has to experiment in different genres to be considered as a flawless actor rich and versatile acting skills. So, it will be better for him to understand the ground reality and come out of this Heroism mentality and grab the opportunities that are coming his way.
