The Bhairavnath Mandir of Kaal Bhairav ​​or Bhairav ​​Baba is situated on the banks of Shipra River, about 4 km from Ujjain bus stand. The Kaal Bhairav ​​Temple is dedicated to Mahakal or Bhairav, a form of Lord Shiva, the ‘guardian deity’ of the city. Liquor is offered to the idol of Kaal Bhairav ​​in this temple as a part of tantric rituals. It is also said that in ancient times only tantrics used to come here and perform tantric activities here and it is believed that the tantra done here never fails.

History of this Temple

The history of Bhairavnath Mandir Ujjain is believed to be about 6000 years old, but till now no concrete evidence has come to the fore. But the Kaal Bhairav ​​temple is said to have been renovated by the Parmar kings about 1000 years ago. Only the old material of the temple was used for this construction work and this temple is still in the same condition.

According to the Bhairavnath Mandir priest, the description of this temple is found in the Avanti Khanda of Skanda Purana. Also legends are associated with this temple, according to which Lord Mahakal of Ujjain appointed Kaal Bhairav ​​at this place to guard the city. That’s why Kaal Bhairav ​​is also called Kotwal of Ujjain city.
