Anti-national NGOs: The anti-India brigade in cahoots with their foreign masters have been regularly conspiring to economically, socially and politically harm and balkanise India. To carry out their nefarious anti-India agenda, majority of them hid behind the guise of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). But all their efforts to breach and harm Indian democracy from within have been foiled to a large extent post 2014.
Their source of funding from within the country have significantly withered out. Later, it was assumed that the removal of loopholes in Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) would completely decimate this evil nexus. However, several developments in the past suggest that the menace of anti-national NGOs is far from over.
Anti-national NGOs having foreign allegiance still operating clandestinely
A Finnish Green League Politician and member of the European Parliament, Alviina Alametsä recently alleged India of committing grave Human Right violations. Speaking about Republic Day, she claimed that the celebrations were shadowed by urgent Human Rights violations in the country.
She made these remarks after her first extensive travel across India. Earlier, she had visited India as the standing rapporteur for India in the European Union’s law-making body.
As per the legislators’ claims, during her travel in India, she met several Human Rights activists, officials, journalists and scholars. In those meetings she discussed the state of India’s democracy and Human Rights.
She highlighted that several “hard working” NGOs are now working underground to fulfil their agenda. Her false and politically motivated accusations cleared the air. Her allegations and attendees of the event where she spoke, were enough to dispel any doubt and help connect the missing dots.

Alviina Alametsä said, “I witnessed human rights violations when travelling in India. When I met the human rights defenders, I was shocked at how many of them work under very restricted circumstances, in an unpredictable and risky environment. Their offices have been shut down; their funds frozen. I met respectable, hardworking NGOs that now have to work totally underground. Many international organisations have been forced to leave the country. Many activists have been detained without due process, and others silenced.”
Is there any need to give heed or credence to the event and its attendees?
As a guest, Alviina Alametsä made the above remarks at a parliamentary briefing organised by The London Story. Notably, the London Story is a think-tank run by the Indian diaspora in the European Union. The virtual event deliberated on the topic ‘Taking stock of constitutional rights protection in India’.
What makes this event worth noting is that it was attended by notorious players like Advocates Prashant Bhushan, Senior Advocate Anand Grover and Shahrukh Alam.
Suffering from White supremacy, Alametsä sermonised that EU must cooperate and hold India accountable for deteriorating Human Right situation.

She added, “Defending human rights should be at the core of the EU-India partnership. When freedom of speech and democratic opposition are at risk within a country, their international partners must cooperate and hold each other accountable.”
In her concluding remarks, she again reiterated that the organisations are carrying on with their work for minorities and discriminated communities.
She said, “The situation in India is deteriorating fast yet hope remains. Activists keep fighting, organisations keep operating, and free media keeps reporting. All of this work is for the minorities, the poor and those forgotten and discriminated against.”
Whether it is the sham of BBC documentary to peddle communal agenda in India or events like this, the role of shoddy NGOs that have been banned in India have repeatedly come to the fore.
These developments suggest that something more has to be done in FCRA regulations in order to completely end the menace of foreign funded anti-India NGOs. The reports from the government suggest that we may have a silver lining in regard to these rampant violations. These grave violations have in fact drawn great suspicion of the Government of India.
Data highlights the gravity of the threat posed by these mushrooming registered and unregistered NGOs. In India, the NGOs registered under the FCRA are monitored by the Ministry of Home Affairs through a separate division. Apart from the registered NGOs, there are nearly 35 lakh NGOs that are not registered under the FCRA. They are governed by nearly 40 different laws like the Society Registration Act, The Companies Act, Public Trust Act and others. This allows them to exploit the loopholes within the law to legitimise their anti-India agenda.
As per reports, the Government may set up a statutory body to govern ‘deviations’ and illegal funds that anti-national NGOs are still receiving to peddle anti-India agenda in the country. It is important to keep modifying these laws so as to regularly bring them into the ambit of law whenever they violate the new guidelines otherwise, they will eventually start to compromise Indian democracy.
