Thirunallar Saneeswaran Temple – Overview
The Thirunallar Saneeswaran temple of Sri Darbaraneswarar in Tamil Nadu is one of the Navagrahas. The main deities of the temple are Lord Shiva, his consort Goddess Parvati and Lord Shani. In the Thirunallar temple, Lord Shiva is Darbaranesvara, while Goddess Parvathi is popular as Pranambika or Bogamartha Poona Moolayal.
History of this Temple
According to the history of Thirunallar Saneeswaran Temple, the famous King Nala and Queen Damayanti liked each other and got married. However, the deities wanted to marry Queen Damayanti. So after this marriage, the deities became angry and jealous of Nala. The deities approached Saneeswaran and asked him to help them.
But after seeing the couple, he decides to convince the Devas of Nala’s true love for their queen. Saneeswaran gave a lot of trouble to King Nal and finally, the king reached Thirunallaru. The king worshiped Lord Dharpaneshwar in Thirunallar Saneeswaran Temple and hence the Lord freed him from curse and blame.
Nala stayed for some time and built the temple. Later Nal got his kingdom back. The world Thirunallar is made up of two words – “Nala” meaning King Nala and “Aru” meaning “Heel” meaning the place of Nala.

Thirunallar Saneeswaran Temple Darshan Timings
This temple opens at 6 am in the morning and close at 12:30 pm and for evening Darshan it opens at 5pm and close at 8:30 pm.

The place was initially Ambar-Harattur meaning victory over Ambaran, which later became Ambarathur. Goddess Bhadrakali is also the most efficient goddess in blessing the followers. It is a religious temple for Hindus.
Karaikal Ammaiyar Temple
Karaikal Ammaiyar is a small temple dedicated to Karaikal Ammaiyar, the only woman among the sixty-three Nayanmars. Also, Malaiperumal Pillai built it in 1929. It is also famous for the huge statue of this female saint. Also, popular as Goddess Punitavati, the legends of this woman and her supernatural powers are well known among the natives of the region.

By Air- The nearest airport is Tiruchirappalli which is located at the distance of 168 km from Thirunallar Saneeswaran Temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services.
By Road- The temple is 5 km from Karaikkal bus stand and 22 km from Nagapattinam bus stand. Buses from all the parts of the country runs here.
By Train- Nearest railway station from this temple is Karaikal. The easiest route from Chennai to Thirunallar is via Tindivanam, Pondicherry, Chidambaram, Tranquebar, Karaikal.
