All India Sai Samaj popularly called by the people as Mylapore Shirdi Sai Baba temple is one of the most visited religious places in Mylapore. The temple is dedicated to Sai Baba of Shirdi, who was an illustrious spiritual master and is known as an enlightened sage, satguru and fakir.

History of this Temple

Mylapore Sai Baba Temple was built by Sri Narasimha Swami, a lawyer from Salem and an ardent devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba. He built the temple at the same place where he worshiped the image of Sai Baba under a tamarind tree.

Sri Narasimha Swami founded the All India Sai Baba Samaj in 1940, whose flagship publication was a magazine called Sai Sudha. He also toured the country preaching about the life and teachings of Sai Baba. He made a great following of Sai Baba and later established the temple in 1952 with the help of funds from his friend JD Pannalal and made it the headquarters of the All India Sai Baba Samaj.

Initially, it was only Sai Baba’s picture that was worshipped, but in 1987, Sri Muthu Venkataraman installed the white marble idol, which is revered even today. The temple is also considered as the resting place of Sri Narasimha Swami. The origin of Shirdi Sai Baba is unknown. Later he preached Sufism and performed miracles. He promoted peace and harmony and did not differentiate between people on the basis of religion, caste or community.
