History of this temple

According to historians, the Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple was originally built by Rishi Agastya. Its main attraction is its main deity, the ‘Sri Adishtatmaka Annapurneshwari Ammanavar Devasthan’ which is made entirely of gold. The ancient temple of Goddess Annapurneshwari was renovated and renamed as Adi-Shaktimatka Shri Annapurneshwari.

When it was first built, the temple was very small and inconspicuous until the fifth Dharmakarattari, Sri DB Venkatasubba Jois renovated it according to Vastu and astrological principles. In the year 1973, he restored the temple. Furthermore, the Mahakumbhishekam of this temple was performed by none other than the Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shri Abhinav Vidyatheertha Mahaswamiji of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri.

In Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple, the goddess is depicted as standing on a stool with Shanku, Chakra, Sri Chakra and Goddess Gayatri in her four hands. Devotees of this goddess believe that if they seek her blessings, there will never be a shortage of food in their lives. In fact, according to history, Lord Shiva was cursed, but when he came to this temple and received alms from Goddess Annapurneshwari, he got rid of the curse.
