Ghati Subramanya Temple, Banglore – Overview
There are many temples in and around Bangalore, some more recent and others that have existed for centuries. One of the old temples in the vicinity of the town is Tubagere, Doddaballapura – Ghati Subramanya Temple. One cannot forget its architecture even from a distance.
The temple is the main landmark area, which attracting devotees from all over the state and region. It also hosts a Cattle Fair apart from several festivals and rituals.
History of Ghati Subramanya Temple
According to records found, the temple is believed to be more than 600 years old, while its origins may date back many more years. The construction of the Ghati Subramanya temple is belong to Ghorpade, who belonged to the Sandur dynasty.
It is believed that the deity appeared in the king’s dreams and revealed the whereabouts of the idols. The king discovered the self-manifested idol of the deity with the help of the local people and then ordered to build a temple around it.

Architecture of this Temple
One of the most distinctive features of the temple is the high pyramid-shaped gateway tower, which is a perfect example of Dravidian architecture. It is adorned with sculptures of various deities and incidents from Hindu Sanskriti.
Idols are believed to have always existed here, and according to legend, the idols of Kartikeya and Narasimha emerged from the ground and the temple was built around it. There is a bambi which is in front of the temple and devotees pour milk on it as part of a ritual. In this temple The idol of Lord Subramanya, in his snake form, faces east while the idol of Lord Narasimha sits on the east’s back and faces west.

Ghati Subramanya Temple is one of the most prominent places for snake worship in South India. Brahmarathotsava is one of the important days in the temple, which is celebrated with special rituals. Ghati Subramanya temple is also famous for celebrating Narasimha Jayanti.

How to reach Ghati Subrahmanya Temple
By Air- The nearest airport to the temple is Bangalore International Airport, which is at a distance of 48 kms. From the airport, the most convenient route is NH648 and the travel time is approx. one hour from this airport.
By Train- The nearest railway station is in the city of Bangalore which is at a distance of 60 kms. From the City Railway Station, one has to pass through Bellary Road to reach the temple, it will take 90 minutes to 2 hours to reach the temple from railway station.
By Road- Bellary Road is the main arterial road that connects Ghati Subramanya Temple to its surrounding urban areas. From Bangalore, the distance of the temple is about 61 kms. You can easily travel by bus, as there are buses passing through Doddaballapura and from here you can take local transport or taxi to reach this temple.
