The Indian government opted to maintain its non-Alignment attributes by remaining neutral. Despite numerous efforts by the West and United States, India did not go against its oldest strategic ally, Russia.

The top White House official while addressing the audience in Washington, highlighted the independence of the Indian foreign policy and said, “India has a unique strategic character. It will not be an ally of the United States. It has a desire to be an independent, powerful state and it will be another great power.”

The statement has great significance in depicting the growing significance of India in the crisis that hit global order. The West and the United States have historically been in opposition to India, while the largest democracy has always been inclined towards the USSR. The statement is nothing less than a tectonic shift in the global narrative about India, which has strongly established itself as the only nation which is equidistant to both Russia and United States.
