Bharat Jodo Yatra: Finding fault in others for one’s failures is a sign of defeatist mentality and Congress leaders seem to have excelled in this art. The grand old party, Congress, has lost its connection from the masses and it is pretty evident from the speeches of its leaders. It has failed to gain any success in imposing its flawed sense of reality on the nation. Now, the party itself has accepted the fact that its ambitious campaign had failed miserably.
Disastrous run may be gift-wrapped with new arbitrary names
In mid-December, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra completed its 100 days. In those 100 days, the Yatra became ‘eye of the storm’ for several controversies. Instead of getting success in cornering the Modi government, the party’s alleged misdeed and backing of anti-social elements foiled the very purpose of the yatra. Rather than finding traction among the common masses, the yatra only attracted leftist ecosystems, notorious elites of so-called NGOs or Environmentalists and conversion mafia like pastor George Ponnaiah.

Now, its own leaders have started to acknowledge that Bharat Jodo Yatra has failed to change the political ground realities and forge a connection with the ordinary Indians. Recently, its leaders in several public addresses have hinted about the same. During an address, Kamal Nath’s son and Congress leader Nakul Nath stated that his sub-rally had drawn more crowds then the original Bharat Jodo Yatra could draw.
Additionally, Senior Congress leaders have started to plan newer and more targeted Yatras before the party’s ambitious Yatra could come to its own logical end. In a media interaction, Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh stated that the party will soon start “Hath se Hath Jodo Yatra“. He added that all the preparations for the new Yatra have been taken care of. From 20th January onwards, the grand old party will undertake a door-to-door campaign to spread the message of Rahul Gandhi and his Yatra to the public.

Dispelling his angst on media and Covid
In the Delhi-leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi vented his anger on the media houses. He argued that in the initial days, the media used to go gaga around him but when he visited ‘Bhatta Parsaul in UP, the media turned against him. Rahul further alleged that BJP spends scores of rupees to damage his image.
He said, “BJP spent thousands of crores to damage my image. When I came to politics in 2004, our government came to power and the media used to praise me throughout the day. They used to do Rahul Gandhi…Rahul Gandhi all the day. Then I went to Bhatta Parsaul (in UP) and raised the issue of farmers’ land and they turned against me.”

Going further, he tried to blame the media for the ‘failure’ of Congress’ Yatra. He alleged that the media doesn’t cover his Yatra. Rahul Gandhi has been regularly mocking, and questioning the voters’ intellect for not voting for Congress’ party. Moreover, Congress from time to time has been alleging that BJP keeps winning because the voters are ‘communal’ and hatred won over the Congress’ message of ‘love’.
Seeing the utter failure of the party’s ambitious Yatra, the Congress President and its leaders made desperate calls. In desperation to make the Yatra a moderate success, its leaders started to pass on unscientific rhetoric and even question Covid guidelines.
Congress President Kharge said, “BJP is in fear due to Bharat Jodo Yatra and is taking the excuse of COVID. There is no COVID anywhere. Nothing happened to anyone. PM Modi himself does not wear a mask. All this is being done to create fear and break this Yatra.”
Painting a contrarian picture won’t work anymore
But it was ironic that for taking potshots at the Modi government, Rahul Gandhi made a contrarian statement to his earlier public stand. He stressed that his Yatra was a replica of India and had no hatred and violence. However, in doing so, he mocked the attendees of the Yatra. To make his point clear, the Congress leader claimed that animals too attended his yatra and they were not harmed.
He said, “In Bharat Jodo Yatra, dogs also came but no one harmed them. Cow, buffaloes, pigs, all animals came. All the people came. This Yatra is like our India. I have not seen any hatred or violence among people while walking 2,800 kms, and I have not seen violence or hatred anywhere in the country. But when I turn on the TV, there is hatred all the time. 24 hours there is only Hindu-Muslim in the media.”
However, in making that claim, Rahul Gandhi forgot that irrespective of his claim, the media and social media have been keeping a watch on the party’s alleged anti-social acts. Through the Yatra, Congress had openly backed cow killer Rijil Makkutty. Highlighting this fact many netizens questioned Congress’ claim of not harming animals and stressed that the claim was a bit too rich coming from Congress leaders.
Congress has been relentlessly indulging in blame games. After every election it blames the voters, EVM and even the Election Commission for its defeats. For all of them, who had doubts about the success of the Yatra, should look at the desperate calls by Congress’ party to snub news and facts of Covid and call voters to join its slew of Yatras till it attains success in imposing its flawed political realities on the society.
