The new nugget of Vikas Divyakirti – Bhagwan Ram beheaded ‘Shambuk’ for dharmic abomination

Shambuk story

Shambuk story: Do you know what is the biggest lie that has been peddled about Hinduism and Prabhu Shri Ram? It is the despicable falsehood that Shri Ram abandoned Maa Sita on the reservations of some common man, a dhobi. Let me categorically tell you that this is blatantly incorrect. All the controversial episodes like the one stated above, finds reference in the Uttar Kand.

The official Valmiki Ramayan is the source of inspiration for all other Ramayan’s. It ends at the Yuddha Kand. The Uttar Kand was added in it at a very later stage. There are many stark differences between the tone, tenure and behaviour of all spiritual characters in the original Valmiki Ramayan as compared to depictions in Uttar Kand.

Controversial Educators spreading falsehoods about Hinduism

What is your perception about Gurus? Gurus are the ones that free us from all doubts and broaden our horizons. But can the same be said about the ones who are using reprehensible strategies to get popular on the internet. To stand out of the league and look intellectual, some educators have been subtly peddling falsehoods among their ignorant students. These educators can be seen making snide commentary about Hinduism, Indian society and history.

Earlier, TFI had talked about Avadh Ojha who is extremely popular in the UPSC coaching fraternity. Today we will highlight the controversial remarks of one more such popular UPSC Educator Vikas Divyakirti.

A video is going viral in which he is seen making certain remarks about Valmiki Ramayan and Tulsidas’s Ramacharitmanas. Before going forward, listen to an excerpt where he is making snide commentary about Ramayan, Prabhu Shriram and mocking Ramrajya.

His claims

The Drishti IAS founder Vikas Divyakirti starts by saying that there are many versions of Ramayan and every individual writer has a unique style, the writer may add or subtract certain things. Right. Then he jumps to his main allegation. He claims that to ‘SAVE’ Bhagwan Ram, Tulsidas omitted the episode of Shambuk. Then, by giving a disclaimer, he starts ANALYSING the life of Bhagwan Ram.

Then he narrates the story about Shambuk. The so-called Shambuk episode goes like this. Ram was governing his kingdom and his Rajguru Vashisht pointed out that some immoral things are happening in the kingdom that can cause calamity. Later, Ram dwells in his kingdom to find out what immoral was going on in his Rajya. At one place, Shri Ram finds a man performing tapasya. Ram inquired about his identity and CASTE. Ram gets to know that Shambuk is a shudra and was performing tapasya which he was not supposed to do as a Shudra.

After that the UPSC educator Divyakirti narrates that Ram’s reading of moral and immoral was manipulated by Guru Vashishts teachings. Then, Divyakirti repeatedly mentions how a Shudra can perform dharmic rituals in Ramrajya. Then he narrates that hearing this abominable act, Shri Ram decapitates Shambuk with a SWORD.

While narrating all these claims and so-called Shambuk story, the UPSC educator spiced it up with quirky connections with contemporary politics to trivialise the importance of Hindu epic.

The reality about these abominable claims

Is there any reference of such an incident in Valmiki Ramayan? The clear answer to that is – no. There is nothing like this in Valmiki Ramayan. Just like the false story of Mata Sita’s abandonment, this story of Shambuk is also mentioned in the controversial Uttar Kand. As stated above, the Uttar Kand was not in the original Valmiki Ramayan.

All the Ramayan Pratis (copies) circulating in the market in the name of Valmiki Ramayan are factually incorrect and have been perverted with the adulteration of Uttar Kand.

If you want to read the real Valmiki Ramayan, then go to the Internet and search Valmikiramayan.net It is one of the authentic sources which is being maintained by certain devoted IITians.

It is clear that the claims of Vikas Divyakirti are completely misleading.

Even if for the sake of argument, we assume that the episode narrated by Vikas Divyakirti is right then it backs the question that when did Bhagwan Ram ever carry a sword with him? So, how did Shri Ram sever Shambuk’s head with a sword?

Shri Ram always had a bow and arrow with him. Secondly, Ram never attacked an unarmed person. If Shambuk was unarmed, how can Lord Rama attack him?

On the contrary, there are many references in original Valmiki Ramayan that clearly depicts Bhagwan Ram’s respect, love and sense of equality for Adivasis, Vanvasis and Shudras among others. The story of Kewat Nishad Raj and Sabri offering berries to Bhagwan Ram are few prominent examples of it.

It is unfortunate that even UPSC educators are falling prey to adulterated versions of Ramayan. Time has come to confront such abominations.
