“Meri Maa Ghatiya Thi, Mera Baap Badsurat Hai” – The new phase of Stand-Up Comedy

stand-up India

Comedy on stage, debates and commentary on some event is not a new concept for India. But the present form of stand-up comedy in India has lost the essence of its culture and richness of its roots. Stand-up in its present form is a western style of art concept or we can say it is more popular in west world. Now it is gaining some popularity in India as well.

One thing we should keep in mind is that there are huge cultural differences between the US and India. We are rich in that area. But if a person tries to copy everything that the western world does then they will lose whatever connection they have to their roots. Western comedians do that type of comedy according to their culture and society. But in India, some comedians do filthy comedy just to get followers on social media and gain some cheap fame.

Stand-Up comedies in India needs a quality check

In the west, stand-up comedy was mainly used to mock the African-American issue and to point out some social and political issues too. They delivered those jokes with nonsensical monologues to the audience according to their society.

But what is happening in our nation?

Stand-up comedy started to grow in India very fast after the internet revolution. Initially, these comedians used abusive language to get famous. After that, a time came when these comedians started to mock Hindu Gods and Goddesses to get some limelight like Munawar Faruqui, Aadar Malik, Sanjay Rajoura etc. Now some comedians have begun making fun of their own parents in the name of comedy.

The problem is that, such acts have massive negative impact on the society, specially the young kids. Kids have begun using bad words like it is their mother tongue. It is not the fault of the children though. They are just repeating whatever they hear or watch.

In the western world, people leave their parent’s after turning 18 or 19. But here, in this nation, kids live with their parents till the very end. Even these unemployed comedians live happily in their parent’s house. They later stand outside that same house and make fun of their parents just for the sake of some followers or likes.

One more garbage that these comedians are introducing is “ROAST.” Roasting is a form of comedy where people disrespect each other and use every possible vulgar word to make their statements funny. But the issue arises when people sometimes roast another person without his or her consent.

Roasting has turned into cyberbullying nowadays. It awfully impacts a person’s mentality and according to the National Institute of Health (NIH) some suffer from depression. Few people even get suicidal thoughts because of that.

Public figure should be selective with their words

With popularity comes great responsibility. If people listen to you, follow you and want to be like you then you have to be very careful with your words and actions. But these cheap comedians are crossing every limit of public decorum.

The minds of the parents of the person who is talking trash about their mother and father must be flooded with several questions. Were they bad parents? Was there any flaw in their parenting? Is this what they have taught to this monster?

What anyone does in their personal life is completely up to them. But if you are a public figure then sadly you do not get much of a personal life. So, these comedians should have some control over their tongue.

The sad state of stand-up comedy in India

These kids (so called comedians) are making a fortune by disrespecting their parents. This is also known as “Kaliyug” according to the Veds and Upanishads.

Anyone can easily make fun of their parents and parents will never object to it. They will always motivate their kid because parents always wish growth and good future for their kids, no matter how stupid that kid is.

It is easy to ridicule others but it takes guts to make fun of yourself. It requires skill and hard work to create good clean content. But sadly these dimwits lack these skills.
