Guru Ram das ji Biography
Guru Ram das ji was born on October 9, 1534 AD and was the fourth Guru of the Sikhs. He had established the city named Amritsar. Prakash Parv or Guru Parv is celebrated on his birthday. Earlier Amritsar was known as Ramdaspur on behalf of his name.
Who gave the post of Guru to Guru Ram das ji?
Guru Ramdas ji’s childhood name was Jetha. He was born on October 9, 1534 in Chuna Mandi which is now in Lahore. His father was Haridas and mother Anoop Devi. Guru Ramdas ji was married to Bibi Bano, daughter of Guru Amardas ji.
On 1 September 1574 after Seeing the devotion of Jetha ji, Guru Amardas gave him the title of Guru and changed his name to Guru Ramdas. That is, Ramdas ji received the most important post of Guru in Sikhism on September 1, 1574 AD and he remained on this post till September 1, 1581 AD. He established a new city named ‘Amrat Sarovar’ in 1577 AD, which later became famous as Amritsar.

Works of Guru Ramdas Ji
Guru Ram das ji composed Anand Karaj 4 Phere for the marriage of the people of Sikhism and told the Sikhs about their observance and Gurumat dignity.
Means Guru Ram das ji popularized a new marriage system for Sikhism. Guru Ramdas ji carried forward the practice of langar given by his gurus. He had also started the excavation of the holy lake ‘Satoshsar’.
It was in his time that people started taking donations or donations for ‘Guru’. Emperor Akbar also respected him for being such a good-natured person.
Emperor Ashoka did not collect rent in Punjab for one year on the behest of Guru Ramdas ji. Lavaan is one of his songs which is sung during the Sikh wedding ceremony. The foundation of Guru Harmandir Sahib i.e. ‘Golden Temple’ during his tenure auspicious golden temple was also laid.

Guru Ram das ji had encouraged the practice of religious pilgrimage. Do you know that Guru Ramdas ji had written 638 hymns in 30 ragas during his tenure? There are 31 Ashtapadi and 8 Varan which are mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Guru Ram das ji handed over the title of fifth Nanak to his youngest son Arjan Dev. That is, after him the throne of the Guru started running in the family tradition. Guru Ramdas ji died on 1 September 1581.
