There is a famous Hindi proverb that says “Chor ki dahdi me tinka” which translates to “A grass blade in the beard of a thief.” Often, people who commit misdeeds can easily foresee their inevitable fate. In their fear of the law, these suspects get trapped in their web of lies while trying to hide their tracks.
ED summons Liger’s producers
Puri Jagannadh, the director of the disastrous movie Liger is back in the news.
Recently, the ED summoned him in a case related to charges of money laundering. Reportedly, the agency had information that the money used to fund Liger came from a foreign source. The ED wanted to check if the funding was done in violation of the FEMA Act. Both the producers, Charmme and Puri were grilled by the ED for 12 hours each and so, it is necessary and the duty of the financial watchdog to dig into this case for the national interest.
If there is something related to the violation of FEMA then it is a serious concern for the nation. If someone random, with mischievous agenda, starts funding films and promoting their propaganda then the future of the entertainment world will face doom for sure.

Is he trying to dodge the agency?
Earlier this month, Jagannadh had requested police protection after Liger flopped at the box office. He stated that he was receiving death threats from the distributors of the movie.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma too had posted the screenshot of a WhatsApp group where the distributors were calling for a protest outside Puri’s home in Hyderabad.
The message written in Telugu translates into, “A total of 83 distributors were Liger’s victims. We’re going to Puri Jagannadh house on 27th of this month to do dharna. Therefore, each exhibitor should bring clothes for a minimum of 4 days to stay. If no one dares to come forward, then their names will be removed from the list of beneficiaries. You won’t get a call from us if no one comes that day. And no information will be provided. It would be great if everyone could come.”
It has been seen that suspects resort to defense mechanisms or start making counterclaims and accusations. The story between ED and Puri is not new as it is not the first time that the ED has summoned him. Last Year, the Telegu film director was summoned in connection with a money laundering probe linked to a drugs case.
Puri Jagannadh is among the few Tollywood personalities, who were summoned by the ED. The ED officials wanted to know the name of the company or individuals who funded the movie Liger. Puri Jagannadh has been involved in many other cases and holds a shady past. So, the ED strongly believes that the money used to fund the movie came from abroad. They’re investigating to check if any of this funding violated the FEMA Act as per sources
It’s contradictory to note that on one hand the acclaimed director is seen claiming that distributors are giving him death threats but, on another hand, the story is completely different. So, now the questions that arise are did he really get life threats and if yes then who was threatening him?
