Dear BJP MLA Lalan Paswan, here are some Bhakti lessons for you

Tell me what would be the common answer to the question, ‘How do the followers of Hinduism look like?’ Trust me, even the followers of the religion will mock the religious practices, courtesy lack of knowledge. The immediate picture that comes to mind upon imagining a Hindu, is someone very orthodox, who pays regular visits to some baba, who is hypocrite, who suppresses their women and community lower than them.

However, the original Hindus do not possess a single aforementioned quality. Every single person is guilty of forming such an image of a follower of Sanatan Dharma. And it is the insiders who have inflicted more harm than the ones outside the religious community. One such person part of propagating false narrative is Lalan Paswan.

Who is Lalan Paswan?

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Pirpainti Assembly constituency in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, Lalan Paswan recently courted controversy by making bizarre statements about Hindu Devi and Devatas. He questioned the basic principle of ‘Atma and Parmatama’ of Sanatan Dharma.

He seemed to be on some spree to not only insult Hindu Devi and Devatas but also of appeasing the minority. Paswan can be typically categorised as the practising Hindu who goes on to demean the beliefs of his own religion, a religion based on scientific temperament.

Lalan Paswan’s slip of tongue

Lalan Paswan questioned the belief related to Devi Lakshmi, goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity. The MLA said that the people from the Muslim community do not worship Goddess Lakshmi but thay are still well off and are doing well for themselves.

“If we get wealth only by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, then there would have been no billionaires and trillionaires among Muslims. Muslims do not worship Goddess Lakshmi, are they not rich?” Paswan said, as quoted by ANI.

He didn’t stop here, rather went on to question the worshipping of Goddess Saraswati, he said rhetorically, “Muslims do not worship Goddess Saraswati. Are there no scholars among Muslims? Do they become IAS or IPS?”

Paswan attacks idol worship

Attacking the belief of worshipping idols of devis and devatas, Paswan said, “If you believe then it is a goddess and if not then it is just a stone idol. It is up to us whether we believe in Gods and Goddesses or not. We have to think on a scientific basis to reach a logical conclusion. If you stop believing, then your intellectual capacity will increase.”

Paswan called upon to end the culture of idol worship and said, “It is believed that Bajrangbali is a deity with power and bestows strength. Muslims or Christians do not worship Bajrangbali. Are they not powerful? The day you stop believing, all these things will end.”

From where Paswan derives such hate for the Hindu religion is hard to understand. Why would anyone go to such an extent to demean a religion they are following?

Derogatory comments on Hindu religion have become a common thing. And people like Lalan Paswan, who had earlier come to light when he leaked a personal conversation with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, do it to get fame. All they need is a treatment as that of Bollywood. Disgruntled Hindus need to demolish the political fortresses of such leaders the same way they demolished the stardom of nepo-kids.
