873 cops of Kerala Police were directly involved with PFI

It is an open secret that strings of organised crime always lead to a well-oiled nexus of hardcore criminals, terrorists, corrupt bureaucrats, cops, and greedy politicians. It was claimed that the same nexus was exposed in the NN Vohra committee report.

In 1993, the committee was constituted after the horrific series of bomb blasts in Mumbai. It was made up of representatives from R & A, IB, and CBI. The report was submitted by the former Indian Home Secretary, NN Vohra.

However, due to the strong-arm tactics of the corrupt politicians, the report was never made public and the NETAS escaped the might of the law. But developments suggest that the nation will not repeat the same mistake of the past. The security agencies are unravelling the dark secrets that led to the rise of the monster called the Popular Front of India (PFI).

The NIA pulls out the cog in the wheel of terrorism

After banning the dreaded Islamist outfit PFI, the security agencies are taking further steps to completely annihilate the residual terror infrastructure of PFI. The agencies are making sure that the outfit doesn’t resurrect through ecdysis (a process in which animals shed their outer skin).

Evidently, the nation had witnessed this ugly process of ecdysis in the past. PFI was nothing but the changed name of the banned terrorist outfit, the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). With relentless action, the agencies are putting the death nail in the coffin of PFI so that the Jihadi networks can’t revive with different nomenclature.

The NIA investigation has exposed the criminal nexus between the proscribed outfit PFI and Kerala Police. As per NIA, at least 873 officers of the Kerala Police have links with the banned ‘terror outfit’ PFI. The NIA made these charges while handing a NN Vohra committee report to the State Police Chief.

Further, the list of tainted cops may increase as several top officials of the state police force are still under the scanner of the central agencies. These include the officials in the Sub-Inspector (SI) and Station Head Officer (SHO) ranks, and the Civil Police Personnel. Currently, the NIA is gathering details of the financial dealings of these suspected officials.

As per media reports, all police officials from top to bottom are included in the list given by the NIA. The suspected list of police officials having links with proscribed outfit PFI includes personnel belonging to the Special Branch, Intelligence, and Law and Order wings. Even the personnel who were entrusted with the official work of top Kerala Police officers were also infiltrated by PFI.

The primary charge levelled against the police officials is that they have leaked crucial information to PFI. The leak included information regarding the movement of the state police, especially regarding raids.

Prior incidences of this criminal nexus in Kerala

In February last year, a civil police officer of Karimannoor Police Station in Thodupuzha was terminated from service. The officer was allegedly leaking details of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders to the PFI. Furthermore, three police personnel, including an SI, were transferred from Munnar Police Station on similar charges.

It is pertinent to note that the banned outfit PFI spread its ugly tentacles to 22 states, starting from Kerala. The first notorious terror act of PFI was also committed in Kerala, when they chopped off the hand of Kerala Professor TJ Joseph.

Had the Kerala government followed the law, the nation would not have gone through hell and the Delhi and Bengaluru riots would not have taken place at all. However, at that time, the state government was left off, considering it to be a case of the incompetence of the communist government.

But the latest expose of the deeply entrenched criminal nexus of PFI and police officials evokes the days and findings of the NN Vohra committee report. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who also holds the charge of the Home Ministry in the state, is not a novice in administration and governance. He can’t hush such a deep nexus as a result of mere incompetence.

Further, the communist government has been alleged to regularly carry out revenge killings of its political ideologies. All these developments hint that the agencies might have joined the dots, which may have led to the higher-up politicians. However, if the Netas are discovered to be associated with the banned outfit PFI or any other terror group, they should be publicly named, shamed, and booked under the relevant section of law. They should not be let loose like it happened after the horrific findings of the NN Vohra committee report.
