The psychological reason why the cult of Peer Babas and Tabeez is flourishing

tabeez

“Hope” is not just any ordinary four-letter word, rather it motivates everyone to achieve a better future. People finding it hard to move in the right direction and find solutions to their miseries often get trapped in the web of lies, deceits and false hopes given by any tom, dick and harry. Further, the extensive PR by so-called celebrities, Hindi Cinema Industry and media fraternity have built a false aura around wearing Tabeez, Peer Babas, and Maulvis. They forget that it is a grave injustice to exploit someone’s despair for personal gains. That is why, it becomes imperative to bust the bubble of this rising cult which is exploiting the destitution of common citizens.

Politics and Bollywood created this bubble

What according to you is the most misused word in Indian politics? We might have the answer for you, SECULARISM. In the garb of secularism, Sanatan practices were shunned off as rudimentary, orthodox and anti-Science. Contrary to that, any tiny semblance of Abrahamic practices was presented as holy grail. Political tourism on Dargahs, Shrines and Maazars aired a false aura around them. Further, Bollywood helped in peddling this malicious propaganda. Visiting Dargah before the film release became a regular ritual for the so-called celebrities of Bollywood.

To spice up propaganda, the Hindu devotional songs were replaced by Qawwali, Mujras and Urdu imposition. The continued trend forced Hindi to the side-line. It created a false awe around Urdu and it was wrongfully presented as the go-to language to communicate LOVE. Then came the proponents of Love and good will, the Maulvis and Peer Babas. In movies, they were omnipresent in times of crisis and a Tabeez became the magic wand saving the believer akin to a cat having nine lives.

Does it mean, all those claiming benefit from tabeez are liars?

The extensive positive PR around Tabeez and medication from Peer Babas led to an increased number of persons hopping onto it. Neither everyone benefited from this nor everyone were dupped. In fact, those who claim changed fortune after wearing Tabeez or medication from Peer Babas are not a witness of a miracle or blessings of Tabeez but are one among many who turned out to get the benefit of law of averages.

To put it Simply, even a stopped clock shows the correct time twice a day. Is it a miracle or coincidence? On similar lines, A normally unreliable person or instrument can occasionally provide correct information, even if only by accident.

All in all, the so-called blessing effect of tabeez is nothing but an outcome of the law of averages. It is the commonly held belief that a particular outcome or event will, over certain periods of time, occur at a frequency that is similar to its probability. These imposter Babas claiming to possess special powers dupe innocent civilians left, right and centre. They suggest anything in the name of medication and by law of averages, the staunch belief of certain tabeez inhibitors benefit from their own changed attitude rather than the blessing of the Tabeez or Peer Babas.

Mazar, Dargah – Epitome of Secular places or is there more than meets the eye?

A mazar is a mausoleum or shrine in some places of the world, typically that of a saint or notable religious leader. So, who are these saints, fakirs, peer Babas and religious leaders who are worshipped in these Mazars and Dargah? Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and Nizamuddin Aulia to name a few. Does their name ring a bell?

Bollywood’s favourite PR hunting Ajmer Sharif dargah is dedicated to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti who fought for Mohammad Ghori. The Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi is the final resting place of Nizamuddin Aulia. Aulia fought for Alauddin Khilji. In fact, the early Peer Babas were nothing but the emissaries of Islamic tyrants.

So, without applying logic, common citizens fall for the trap of Tabeez and Peer Babas. There is nothing magical or scientific research done by these Babas. Yet, the Dargahs in Ajmer and other places triumphed over Sanatan traditions that had a well thought out logic for the Dharmic practices and rituals.
