The oppression that Hindu cricketers go through in Bangladesh and Pakistan

Hindu cricketers

Sports is hailed as the paramount of human potential. It is the only domain in public sphere where the result is directly proportional to human labour. However, its background is not free from social divisions. No one other than Hindu cricketers from Bangladesh and Pakistan have felt this more.

Litton Das’ Facebook post sets Islamists’ posteriors on fire

Recently, Litton Das, one of the few Hindu cricketers of the Bangladesh team expressed his jubilation regarding Durga Puja. Posting a photo of Maa Durga on his Facebook wall, he wrote, “Subho Mahalaya! Mother Durga is arriving.” Apparently adhering to his own way of life is not acceptable to the majority of his fans base. This fan base seems mainly composed of Islamists for whom adhering to other faiths is a blasphemy against their own faith.

Few of them even mentioned their faith’s collision with Litton’s in the comment section as well. People also commented on the idol worship aspect of Litton’s post. They even went as far as citing the Quran to justify their hate for Litton’s open embrace of his way of life..

No respect for Hindu cricketers in Bangladesh

This is not the only instance in which a Hindu cricketer not belonging to India had to face wrath for embracing his identity. The religious fanaticism being imparted to children at a very young age is not sparrig even the best of cricketers. Recently, a video went viral in which the interviewer was asking a small kid about Bangladeshi cricketers. One of the questions was which cricket the kid wanted to meet?

The child wished to meet Mashrafe Muraza, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rehman and Sariful Islam. When quizzed about his reason for not considering Soumya Sarkar in the list, the kid replied that his religion was the reason behind it.

Even Muslim star can’t support Hinduism

The child is not old enough to reason on such lines. He is definitely learning it from his elders. The people surrounding him do not hold Hindus in high regard. They do not even spare those Muslims cricketers when they are perceived as peacefully co-existing with Hindus. In 2020, Shakib-al-Hasan, possibly the biggest star Bangladesh Cricket ever produced, participated in a Hindu ceremony in Kolkata. He was the centre of attraction at a Pooja Mandap and had prayed at the stage.

A photo of Shakib present at a place held in high regard by Hindus was enough to draw the ire of radicals. Mohsin Talukdar, an extremists from Sylhet termed it an insult to Islam and Muslims. He even uploaded a video on facebook. In the video, Mohsin said that he would cut Shakib’s throat and dismember his body. Though Mohsin was arrested, Shakib still had to come forward and ask for forgiveness.

Percolated from Pakistan

The seeds of anti-Hindu sentiments against Bangladesh cricketers have come from Pakistan. The terrorist nation has marginalised Hindu cricketers to such an extent that it is next to impossible for Hindus to climb up the competency ladder. Hindu Cricketers are systematically discriminated against by the Pakistan Cricket Board and their system. Hindu cricketers do not even get the support of their fellow players, not just domestic but also renowned international ones.

Shoaib Akhtar opened the can of worms

This ugly side of cricket in Pakistan was revealed by Shoaib Akhtar himself. Akhtar started with the auction that he would spill the beans, but then went on to expose Pakistani Cricket set up. Players were filled with so much hate for Danish that they did not even want him to eat with them. The spinner never got due credit which the fourth largest test wicket taker of a country would get in any other geography. Instead, his test performance did not enable his selection in the ODI games. The reason behind this was Shahid Afridi.

Danish Kaneria’s oppression

Afridi, who had once smashed Television after finding that his daughter was doing aarti, conspired against Danish for being a Hindu. Kaneria himself revealed it when he was asked whether what Shoaib Akhtar was saying was true or not. He agreed with Akhtar and also named Afridi as the other monster. Danish said, “When we used to play together for the same department, he used to keep me on the bench and didn’t let me play the one-day tournament. He always wanted to keep me out of the team. I only played 16 ODIs in my 10-year career as I used to get only two or three matches every year.”

Elaborating the length to which Shahid Afridi went to bully him, Kaneria added, “He didn’t want me to be in the team. He was a liar, manipulator… because he’s a characterless person. However, my focus was only on cricket and I used to ignore all these tactics. Shahid Afridi was the only person who would go to other players and provoke them against me. I was performing well and he was jealous of me. I am proud that I played for Pakistan. I was grateful”

Bangladeshis doing to India what Pakistanis did to them

Later Kaneria was accused of match-fixing and did not get any support from the Pakistani board. It was again a systematic oppression against him. Other cricketers like Mohammed Amir, Mohammed Asif and Salman Butt got favourable treatment, that too after facing bans due to the same allegations.

But who could blame the country which has committed genocide against Hindus. Hindus are at the verge of extinction in Pakistan. No wonder Kaneria was only the second cricketer to play for Pakistan. Unfortunately, Bangladeshis have not learned a bit from them. They are also doing the same to their Hindu ideals which happened to them in undivided Pakistan.
