For decades, India has been plagued with the menace of religious conversions. The ethos of Sanatan Dharma and its practices have been destroyed by these conversion rackets. Even in independent India, no heed was paid to this disastrous problem. As a result, the rampant cultural genocide of Hindus continued and the Islamists and the missionaries in the garb of ‘Conversion’ kept wreaking havoc on the society. The governments kept mum and continued with their minority appeasement politics. However, the Bhartiya Janata Party is not like the Congress and should tighten the noose around these conversion nexuses just like former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das.
Centre plans to set up commission to study conversion
As per a report published in The Indian Express, the BJP government at the centre is planning to constitute a national commission to assess the social, economic and educational status of Scheduled Castes, or Dalits, who converted to religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.

As per the report, the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Department of Personnel Training (DoPT) have given their go-ahead for the plan. At present, consultations are underway among the Home, Law, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Finance ministries.
The commission will constitute three to four members, all with the rank of Union Cabinet minister along with its chairman. The panel will be given a deadline of one year to submit its report.
The AGENDA
The commission will map the changes in the status and situation of Dalits who have converted to Christianity or Islam. Along with that, they will also study the impact of adding more members to the current SC list. The development comes in the backdrop of many petitions filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking SC reservation benefits for Dalits who converted to Christianity or Islam. The Scheduled Castes currently enjoy a 15 per cent reservation and Scheduled Tribes enjoy a 7.5 per cent quota. There has been a long-standing demand to completely delink from religion and be made religion-neutral like that of STs. However, the saffron party had always taken a stance against this and the prime examples are from the regime of former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das.

PM Modi should trace Raghubar Das’ steps
Jharkhand, just like most of India, was a victim of demography change. In the state of Jharkhand, there was a huge demographic change during the last 10-12 years, in which the population of Christians grew by a whopping 29.7% and that of Muslims grew by 21%. To tackle the menace of conversion, Raghubar Das took several steps, he passed the long-due anti-conversion bill named Religious Freedom Bill in 2017. To add on, the former Jharkhand CM relentlessly cracked down on churches and church-run organisations that were using foreign funds for religious conversion. Later in his biggest blow, then CM Das announced that the ones who have converted won’t be able to avail benefits of reservation. The plan proposed by Raghubar Das was aimed at dissuading the tribal population from changing their religion as it would take away the benefits of reservation in education, jobs and other activities from them.
With this commission the Modi government should aim for the same. They have already declared a war on the NGO cartel operating on foreign funding, forcing them to close their conversion shops. Now, through this commission the government should persuade ones converting to other religions to halt as they would be devoid of reservations. This will in turn discourage the conversion cartels, thus saving India from the menace.
