How Congress is spending millions to make Rahul Gandhi look an Aam Bhartiya

Have you heard about the famous gaze of Medusa? If not then let me tell you that Medusa’s gaze is considered the antithesis of Midas touch. As per Greek mythology, those who gazed into her eyes would immediately turn into stone. It seems that Rahul Gandhi is the political incarnation of Medusa. Rahul Gandhi is proving to be a political liability to Congress. Wherever he has campaigned for the party, it has performed miserably.

Since his advent into active politics, the political fortune of Congress has been on a nosedive. The same is happening now. He has become the centre of yet another controversy. Such controversies defeat the purpose the party had intended with its Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Expensive Poverty

Once freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu declared that it cost India dearly to keep MK Gandhi in poverty. It seems that her comment fits perfectly on Rahul Gandhi as well. Apparently, Congress has launched a nationwide padyatra to evolve a connection with the common masses. But the rally has been caught in controversies for completely opposite reasons. Reportedly, Congress is spending heavily to create a false commoner aura around party’s Yuvraj – Rahul Gandhi.

The saffron party, BJP lambasted Rahul Gandhi for his hypocrisy. It accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of donning a ₹ 41,000-plus costly T-Shirt from British luxury brand Burberry. BJP leaders claimed that Congress on one hand is spending generously to create a comfortable environment for their Yuvraj but on the other hand it claims to fight for the rights and concerns of commoners, projecting its leaders as ones with no privileges.

It is to be seen that Congress is trying their best to project their party leader Rahul Gandhi as an ordinary Indian citizen. To give it more authenticity, it has claimed that leaders will not stay in luxury hotels or restaurants; rather they have brought 60 containers in which the organising team of 230 members will be lodged in, at the end of every day.

However, it is important to note that these containers are fitted with all the luxuries to make Congress’ leaders stay comfortable. Although the party leaders claim that air-conditioning and other such luxuries have not been included in these 60 containers, several media reports claim otherwise.

There are many contradictions in Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra.

First, the Congress party and its leaders claim that they are in a long haul for issues of Aam Aadmi but heavy spending on comfort and privileges of party leaders and their attires suggest otherwise.

Second, if the party thinks that containers fitted with all luxury amenities are hardships then they may not be entirely wrong for imagining this. They have been bolstering about the jail time of its political ideolog and Former PM Jawaharlal Nehru. Apparently, his jail too was no less a luxury hotel for commoners.

Past goof ups

The Congress has been accused of doing the same on many occasions. There was a famous incident where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was waiving his torn kurta to give an impression that he is not a privileged politician rather a commoner like any other Indian citizen. Apparently, a random citizen had generously donated him Rs 100 to get the kurta stitched. Once his Rs 70000 jacket became the talk of the town. The jacket too was of luxury Burberry brand.

Not just the attire but his political rallies have failed to deliver the intended political message and resulted in a completely opposite outcome. In 2011, Rahul Gandhi supported Bhatta Parsaul farmers. Later all the farmers regret that Rahul Gandhi lended them his support.

Additionally, on several occasions, fellow rally members or family members with whom he had met face to face, deserted him to join BJP.

Congress and its leaders should realise that such gimmicks don’t work in real life. However, if it really wants to ace this trait, that is, project themselves as commoners rather than privileged politicians, then it should learn this from Delhi or Bengal CMs.
