Hindi Abuse down South

Hindi language

It is often said that language is the mirror of culture. Apart from cultural pride, respect for the mother tongue is equally important. India is very fortunate to have a beautiful bouquet of rich languages that have their own scientific roots and syntax. However, a few commonalities like the National Anthem and National Song hold a special place that cuts across all such diversities and invokes a proud feeling of Indianness.

But, unlike National Anthem or other national symbols, the choice of national language got caught in the nasty web of politics. Sadly, there has hardly been any rational thought given to choosing the national language. Heated debates start on the mere mention of Hindi as the candidate for the National language. Due to divisive politics, the greatest strength of India, that is, vast diversity is gradually becoming a weakness upon which anti-India forces pounce on.

Politics over Hindi Diwas

Two days back, when the entire Hindi heartland was rejoicing and celebrating Hindi Diwas with zeal, some politicians left no chance to spew venom against Hindi. They relentlessly pushed their anti-Hindi stance out in the public. The pseudo-secular politicians spoke ill against Hindi and spun a false narrative of Hindi imposition.

The Janata Dal (Secular) accused the BJP-led Central government of imposing Hindi on the people of the nation. Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy alleged that the BJP is using Hindi Divas to divide the country.

DMK leader and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said, “To say that one should learn Hindi to understand the culture and history (of India) is against the unity in diversity principle of India, which consists of people who speak different languages”. The rabid Hindi hater Stalin took a controversial jibe at Hindi. He mocked that our nation is India, not Hindia. He sermonised the Union government to start celebrating 14th of September as “Indian Language Day” instead of “Hindi Diwas.”

Unsolicited Hatred

When Modi Ji says ‘sab ka sath sab ka vikas sab ka vishwas’, these leaders should understand that ‘sab ka’ stands for people from all the linguistic, regional and religious groups. Notably, their hatred for Modi and BJP is such that they find nothing constructive or sane in PM Modi’s statements or advice.

The strength of revolutionaries, the Pride of nationalist poets from Hindi heartlands, and the emotions of more than 450 million people around the globe. Hindi, which carries the cultural glory of the great land of Bharat, has fallen prey to Periyarite Politicians since time immemorial. If there is one thing that can unite various different ideologies of Southern political parties, it is the anti-Hindi stance. All these enemies happily unite under single umbrella to make vitriolic comments on Hindi.

Although there is a long list of vapid Hindi haters, but few among them are prominent citizens of our society. They include Dravidian politicians like Periyar, Annadurai, Karunanidhi, and Jayalalitha to contemporaries like Sidharamahia and Kumaraswamy. They have a shoddy history and indigestion issues with the existence and spread of Hindi. Stories of Hindi hatred dates back to the time when Indian revolutionaries were putting their life at risk to decolonise Bharat Mata from the shackles of the British. Even back then, bigoted Dravadian leaders like Periyar were creating wedges between north and south based on language.

Hindi is a pride for Billions

I am a Hindi speaker, who is proud of my mother tongue, its beauty and history, and contribution to the rich culture of Bharat. It fills my heart with agony when I see my language being mocked and scorned by hysterical extremist politicians down south. They do it for the mere reason of promoting their political narrative and boost their silly vote banks.

It’s sad beyond words that a few people with vested interest have kept on creating a ‘HINDI IMPOSITION’ narrative among the people down south, to stay relevant in the political domain of south India. These ‘Breaking India forces’ are always afraid that if Hindi sees the light of day among the public of south India, then their hideous agenda of disintegrating the country, by peddling false agendas in the name of language, will fall flat and their political death will dance upon their heads.

Therefore, it’s my requisition to each and every citizen to understand the dark story behind the language divide formula created by stupid politicians and not allow them to play dirty linguistic games of the divide.
