A lot of water has flown down the rivers all over India since the top panel of the Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National Parliamentary Board witnessed a rejig. The last parliamentary board list was drawn eight years ago when the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi was inducted in the board. The induction hinted at Modi’s upcoming bigger role. Was it the induction that marked the advent of the Modi Era? Or was Modi wave responsible for his induction? Is history repeating itself? Let’s find out.
BJP Parliamentary board reshuffle
The 11 member BJP parliamentary board saw the dropping of 2 big names that is of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. There were 6 new inductions including veteran leader BS Yediyurappa and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The induction is indeed as symbolic as Yediyurappa is an important Lingayat leader, a community that comprises around 20 per cent of the voter base in Karnataka, where elections are due for 2023. Sonowal has been awarded as he made way for Himata Biswa Sarma. Sudha Yadav is a prominent OBC face in Haryana, and the sole women’s representative in the BJP parliamentary board. The king of winning elections, Devendra Fadnavis has also been inducted in the election committee.
It seems that the BJP through the reconstitution of its high profile board is attempting to diversify along with sending political messages to the public as well as party workers.
Yogi’s name missing from the BJP parliamentary board list
However, despite all this, one thing that has not gone down well with political analysts is the missing name of Yogi Adityanath. Yogi Adityanath is the only leader to hold back to back tenures in the last 36 years, in India’s most populous state. Yogi Aditynath led BJP to an unprecedented second term in UP, the most crucial state ahead of 2024 general elections; hence, there was a lot of buzz that he may be rewarded with a national role by giving a place among the party’s decision-makers. However, CM Yogi, the leader popular for his staunch Hindutva and Ram-Rajya has been kept to the state. Is it a disappointment for Yogi Adityanath?
To remodel the largest state in India as the spiritual headquarters of the faith, and not merely as a political pivot, has an entirely different effect. And the effect is common masses’ support for the Hindu monk. He has been denied a berth in the BJP parliamentary board, but that does not mean that Yogi Adityanath is just a CM of a state.
Yogi to succeed PM Modi
Often leaders of the stature of PM Modi do not tolerate the emotion of ‘after Modi, who?’ and neither allow the sentiment to reach public ears. But the case here is different. It is a widely talked about topic among the political circles of India, from Noida studios to Chai ki Tapri, this question is everywhere. Although, PM Modi will be the face of BJP in 2024, the BJP will need his successor for 2029. As, PM Modi will be contesting the 2024 elections at the age of 73. Many mark Home Minister Amit Shah, as PM Modi’s successor, however, Shah himself during the Up assembly elections had remarked that seeing Yogi Adityanath as the next prime ministerial candidate is natural for the people.
Parallels between PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath
Well, why CM Yogi should and can succeed PM Modi? The answer lies in the parallels that are drawn between the two leaders. Both the leaders are staunch supporters of Hindutva and nationalism and both wear their identity and ideology on their sleeves. To add on, Yogi Adityanath is a priest and a preacher, who dons saffron attire and speaks his mind. Adityanath’s zero tolerance policy on crime and corruption is on the same lines as that of PM Modi.
The common public choses Yogi because of how he developed the state and same was the case with PM Modi, while he was serving as Gujarat’s CM.
On a personal front, Yogi and Modi both live alone and have no family or children, thus steering them clear of taking undue privileges for their benefit. CM Yogi just like PM Modi is a rabble rouser, is a good orator and has the potential to connect with the masses. To add on, Yogi Aditynath is not a member of BJP parliamentary board, just like PM Modi. PM Modi was inducted after he showed his might and became a darling of the entire India. Some situations might be waiting for Yogi Adityanath. Although, CM Yogi has proved his mettle in the central India, his might to be the national leader will make his place in the BJP parliamentary board very soon.
