Vasundhara Raje, an Indian politician, was the chief minister of Rajasthan for two terms beginning on March 8, 1953. She served as India’s first Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises while serving in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Union Cabinet. Political Career

Raje started her political career in 1984 as a member of the National Executive of the still-young (founded in 1980) BJP, and she quickly advanced through the ranks of the organization.

She was named vice president of the BJP’s Rajasthani youth wing in 1985, and two years later she was named vice president of the state organization. She held the positions of joint secretary of the BJP’s parliamentary membership from 1997–1998 and president of the Rajasthan branch of the party from 2002–2003.

She turned her attention to national politics four years later, though, and in 1989 she won a seat in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament. She served on the body for four more terms before leaving in 2003.

Raje held a number of positions while the BJP was in charge of the federal government from 1998 to 2004, including minister of state for external affairs (1998–99) and for the Department of Atomic Energy (DOE) (1999–2003).

She became the chief minister of Rajasthan in 2013 and retained her post till 2018.  She now serves as one of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national vice presidents (BJP).

Achievements

In 2007, she received the “Women Together Award” from the UNO for services rendered toward the self-empowerment of women.

In 2018, she received the ‘Best Chief Minister of the Year’ Award at the 52nd Skoch Summit.

Vasundhara Raje Singh was born in Bombay on March 8, 1953. She is the daughter of Jivajirao Scindia-Shinde, Maharaja of Gwalior, and Vijayaraje Scindia-Shinde, members of the illustrious Scindia royal Maratha dynasty.

Raje finished her education at Presentation Convent School in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, and went on to graduate from the Sophia College for Women in Mumbai with degrees in economics and political science.
