Since the day Russia launched its “special military operation” in Ukraine, western countries, especially the US, have been trying to get India on the anti-Russia sanctions bandwagon. India, on the contrary, stood tall for its all-weather friend and called out the hypocrisy of the West every time it tried to school India for buying Russian oil. Now, Russia has thrashed the US for constantly heckling India.
Russian envoy rips into the US and Europe
The Russian ambassador Denis Alipov has ripped into the US for the latter’s criticism of India. In the interview with PTI, the Russian envoy said that the criticism of the Western countries on its imports of Russian crude oil while exempting themselves from their “own illegitimate sanctions” is a reflection of their own unprincipled position and double standards.

Regarding Europe’s stance, the Russian envoy said that Europe has “completely lost” its independent voice in order to “appease” the USA’s ambitions for power & money. The Russian envoy also slammed Europe for throwing the whole world under the bus. He said that, “Europe is now trying to sustain its economic well-being while triggering an escalation of energy prices for the rest of the globe.” (sic)
Russia-India trade scripting history
The Russian envoy declared that India-Russia trade is sanctions proof. Suggesting that there was no impact of the West’s sanctions he said that there has been a significant upswing in trade. The first six month of this year has recorded a historic turnover of USD 11.1 billion, compared to USD 13 billion in whole of 2021.
Alipov said, “The overall purpose is to supplement each other’s economic strategies as both our countries aim to increase the level of self-reliance and are keen to explore new markets facilitated by sustained mechanisms of financial transactions and logistics.”

This is only one of many actions the US has done to prevent India from paying a low price for a Russian Ural. The US and its supposedly moral friends believed that India would join the sanctions war once they began to impose sanctions on Russia. But India was unwilling to take their advice from the start. Contrary to American strategy toward Russia, India voted against Russia in a number of UN venues while maintaining a strategic neutrality.
On India procuring Russian oil, Alipov said that New Delhi has consistently maintained an approach based on its national interests. He also said that it respects and appreciates New Delhi’s consistent position based on solid foundations of international law and strategic vision of national interests.
Alipov criticised the West and also mentioned what the West must hear, as it has been pressuring India over its ties with Russia. He said that the characteristics of Russia’s strategic partnership with India is not directed against any country.
