Pralhad Joshi Biography and Career

Pralhad Joshi is an Indian politician who has served in the Lok Sabha since 2004 as a representative for the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. He is an Industrialist by profession. He is currently the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines of India, effective as of 30 May 2019. From 2014 to 2016, he served as the State President of the Karnataka chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was a member of the Lok Sabha’s panel of chairs (2014-2018).

Pralhad Joshi was sworn in on May 30, 2019, as a cabinet minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term of administration.

Early Political Career

Early on, Pralhad Joshi, an industrialist by trade, entered politics by spearheading a push to hang the tricolor flag at Idagah Maidan (also known as Kittur Rani Chennamma Maidan) in Hubli, Karnataka, from 1992 to 1994.

During those years, he also served as the leader of the “Save Kashmir Movement,” which helped make him well-known in certain parts of the state. He was subsequently chosen to lead the BJP in the Dharwad district. He ran for office for the first time in the 2004 elections for the 14th Lok Sabha, winning the Dharwad constituency by defeating INC candidate B.S. Patil.

Recent Career

He is the current MP of Dharwad and has won three elections in a row from that district. He achieved the second-highest margin of victory out of 28 Karnataka constituencies in the general elections of 2009, whereas the majority of ministers and MPs suffered defeats during the same period.

He won a second term in Dharwad in 2019 with a margin of more than one lakh votes, and as a result, Modi named him the minister of parliamentary affairs, minister of coal, and minister of mines.

He was born on 27 November 1962, in Vijayapara, Karnataka. He earned a Bachelor of Arts at K.S. Arts College, Hubli.

Pralhad Joshi initially gained attention from the public while working with the RSS in 1992–1994 when they organized a movement to hoist the Tri-color flag at Idagah Maidan in Hubli, Karnataka.

The Karnataka High Court’s ruling restoring the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s ownership of the aforementioned maidan was recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

Listening to Hindustani classical music, reading books of literary importance. He also likes to play Chess, Badminton, and Carrom.
